ive thought about this before, some company should make a underdrive or light weight AC pulley

first off- there is absolutely no need for a 'lightweight' ac or 'underdriven' ac pulley because a... the pulley it already has is a clutch type and on engages when the ac is activated, when it is off it simply spins freely and b... the computer shuts down that engagement at wide open throttle ANYWAYS so its a NON-ISSUE people.

too answer the question of being able to bypass the compressor by simply using the smaller belt, yea im sure you could... may have to remove the compressor to get it on but im sure its doable. thing is though... why? an ac delete pulley is available through your local gm dealership. doesnt squeal and its essentially the 'correct' way of routing the belt anyway.

An a/c pulley isn't so easy to make. It has a bearing and electro-magnetic clutch integrated into it. Even if you did make one it could only be the outer ring of the pulley. Not a lot of weight savings there.

As far as bypassing the a/c without removing the compressor.. yes it is possible. You simply need a shorter belt. The downside is that the ribbed side now has to run on the tensioner. It seems to be a somewhat common thing done here. Im not sure of the belt size required but i do know that if you search this site you will find it.
