2.4 quad cam question

ok this might sound really freckin stupid seeing i now alot about cars but i know @!#$ all about GM s i just got a used engine form a grand prix i did a oil change this is the 1st one since the oil after the swap was put in..my drain plug was full of metal shavings and had small chunks of metal come out that looked like wood almost wtf is going on

color me lost...

a.) its 2.4 twin cam
b.) its 2.3 quad four
c.) no grand prix to my knowledge ever came with a 4 cylinder, let alone a 2.4 tc or 2.3 q4

are you talking about the 3.4 dohc 'quad cam' 60 degree v6 engine? those came in lots of grand prixs...

well if there was wood in it people tend to do that before they sell a knocking motor. the wood shavings stop the knocking and pinging. but does not last for long

my bad iys a 2.4 out of a 99 grand am..anf the chips looks like wood are actually metal so im wondering if a bearing is going?

now a 2.4 in a 99 grand am is correct.

and if it's a 2.4 you can sure bet its a bearing gone if thats the sound.

it sounds like a bearing cause when i let off the clutch i can hear a rocking noise lol...how hard is it to change teh bearing????? and can some one give me some steps on how to do it

well i spose if the crank isnt shot you could just remove the oil pan and slip in a new bearing but thats something used car dealers do...
