No AC power gain

Is there any power gained by removing/bypassing the AC?

Thanks.

No, unless your A/C clutch is stuck engaged when you're trying to go fast. Otherwise it spins freely.

It's a weight savings.

it helps power supply with a/c off though.

^^^ unlike the subs in your sig picture, lolz

horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.

Laws of physics says there will be gains, so you are all wrong. Will the gains be worth messing with? That is a question only you can answer. It depends on what your trying to do with the car. Is this a standalone mod to gain power? If so, then I'd say don't bother. You probably have more gains reducing wind resistance by cleaning the bugs off your front bumper. Is this a mod towards future mods that require more space and just wondering if it would be worth doing early and possibly see anything worthwhile as far as gains by just doing that part of it early? If that's the case, do it, you will see 'some' gains. You loose the inertia drag on the AC pulley and it lessens the amount of power the serpentine belt steels from the motor.

not to mention the little bit of weight you will save if you remove the whole ac system.

Isn't most of everything to do with a/c in our cars aluminum anyway? so it can't possibly be more than 20lbs.... you might, and i mean might see .5 horsepower. But even that's a long shot.
If it means anything to you when i had the belt off mine putting the RK sport underdrivepully on, i took it for a drive with JUST that pully, no belt or anything i couldn't feel the slightest difference.

I removed everything AC wise under the hood, and it was worth it to me. Gives a little more room, and I had my lower radiator hose develop a hole from rubbing on the compressor before.

swap the engine to an eco before you go hacking the sh!t out of the car.

then it'll be faster, and you'll still have a/c.

dyno's don't lie.....and we obviously know somebody who does^ LOL.

LD9 FTMFW, better for sure, don't waste your time swapping.

^Dont forget the ~5lbs of R134a and PAG that WAS in the system before you removed it.

Solid idea, and as someone else said it only weighs 33 pounds.... So the big thing would be removing it trying to make room for bigger and better things. lol

^^^ only 33 lbs?

i know i can tell a difference in the way the car performs with a mere 50lb weight loss... 33 will help. dont fool yourself.

OK well yesterday i decided to take out the AC

I took out the condenser, compressor, the bracket that holds the compressor... I figured it was worth it no only t lose save weight but also to help the engine breath better in the summer time.

Is it worth opening up the dashboard to take out the evaporator?

On my '97 Auto Z24 I dropped .5 sec's in the 1/4 by removing the Serp belt all together....... (granted I also could only make 3 passes down the 1/4 before the battery died )

It makes a noticable difference, in Canada you can buy base models without AC and when I was testdriving '03 sunfires, the non-AC models felt notiicably quicker and peppier so I decided to get one without it... also makes installing goodies and working in the engine bay MUCH easier.

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.
