header question
Monday, May 18, 2009 4:09 PM
Alright I want a header.

I want one that I'm gonna take to the shop and have them install, I would like a header and a downpipe that will fit right to the cat. If there is none on the market that do that, then which ones bolt to the stock downpipe?

I want to retain the stock cat because I don't want the @!#$ty sound, please comment!!

The header from pacesetter is pretty popular, it welds to the stoock downpipe just before the cat.

Comments.... get an aftermarket cat that matches the downpipe size of the header or the catback that you have..the stock cat's piping is 1 and 7/8's outer diameter, it will be a bit of a bottleneck in the system...walker, magnaflow, etc all make aftermarket obdii cats for roughly $75 I don't think any of the headers bolt directly to the stock cat flange, they require welding, so hopefully an exhaust shop is close to where they are installing the header. I also say get the pacesetter, the ceramic coated one for lower underhood temps, or the pacesetter for the LSJ which has larger primaries...the Tsudo is a pain to install and will give the shop fits I'm sure.

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.

So if I go to TTR and I should order the Pacesetter for a Cobalt SS (LSJ)?? It will still weld into the stock downpipe right before the cat right?

LSJ

L61 (2.2 ecotec)

Why does the L61 header from Pacesetter come with an extra short piece of pipe?

the extra pipe with the L61 is the downpipe that gets welded on just before the cat and bolts to the header. if you get the LSJ header you will have to get a custom downpipe made from what I've heard

So basically it would be easier to just get the L61 header w/ included downpipe and take it to a shop?

yeah, that's what I'd do. Probably would be a cheaper install too since they wont have to make a custom downpipe
