Bad luck always nipse ya in the butt
Saturday, September 19, 2009 9:12 AM
Last night I drove close to 400 miles to hang out with zyaa. Well we get there hang out for a bit visit, talk about cars and racing. Its hiting 3am, so head back to the motel. I get on her a lill comming off the ramp next thing you know I hear a horrific noise and the engine dies. I could get it to start again but like ass it ran like and shiat almost sounded like the timing chain jumped or a lash cap fell off a valve. Hopefully nothing serious is wrong with it and its fixible. It just sucks that I'm nearly 400 miles from where I live.

That's what happens when you hang out with Brad. Things go to poo. lol
But seriously, sorry to hear of your plight and hope it's nothing major for you to fix.
Get Brad off his butt to help you out since it happened near his house.
Towing is going to cost ya and is one of the reasons why I haven't traveled the long distances with my Cavy because of a possible break down. WIth 196K on the odometer, I'd hate to have it break on a long trip.
But good luck with your predicament and hope you come through with not too much wrong with the car.

Get a BEATER! Its the best thing you can do lol... I have my baby in the garage for a year, driven it 800 miles! I have a 88 honda civic as my daily driver and out of town car. Too much money invested to put too many miles on her. My 2 cents

Feel the love Brad.
Hope everything works out with the car though.
And O2Eco, I do have a daily driver to take care of the daily driving needs.
But when it comes to going out with the Cavy, that's where it's hard to make those long drives because of situations like this.
Good luck Brody and Brad, stay hooked man. Maybe now you'll get off your butt and work on your rides.

Well after talking to Brad we both come to the conclusion that the mantapart springs are no more then stock ld9 springs. So if you have them and have bigger cams do not rev high rpms like I did. (Lesson learned) I'm glad that there are people like Brad and Tyler who go out of their way to help me get home. When I get the car home I'll pullling the engine and probably just putting a stock engine in and take my time on a new build this winter and use the right springs next this time. I'll for sure post some nice pics of piston valve porn. When I get it all torn down.

So wait, you BOUGHT something from mantapart, its one miracle in itself to actually get the parts, but another entirely to believe they are quality parts.

I have the stiffer Mantapart springs revving to 7k with no problems. Of course I only have the secret cams, but others have had these springs with HO cams with no problems. I don't think you can just lay the blame on the springs.

I think my intake cam is a tad bit bigger then the ho.
Brad heres a bit of extra info I got back from the machine shop after I had the head put back together. This is for the mantapart springs, bind is .980 install height on intake is 1.50 exhaust is 1.35 seat preasure is 70.

Well we got the engine out with in a day and a used one in and running. Had lots of help from everyone who showed up at Brads. Cant find peeps like that who are willing to dive in and get things done not here anyway. img]http://www.j-body.org/members/image/brodycog/0926091118.jpg this is the complete engine I found and had delivered for 400 Piston valve carnage.. Nitro picking up the slack. Even though mantapart springs floated a wrench into the weekend it was still a good weekend getting to meet everyone. Next time it will be under different circumstances.

Back in the day it was a known fact that Mantapart springs were I think HO springs. I could be slightly off on this, but still. Things break, things happen.

Ok I had to go premium to chime in here.

These Manta springs are beefier than the stock 2.4 ones. Just like I told Brad in a pm, I compared these two springs before and compared them and posted pictures years ago. I would NOT of used these if they were no difference in the two. Is it because their from Mantapart people dont wanna believe these springs are different\better than stock?

Yes sir whitecavy I believe they are stronger. But they werent strong enough for my application. They may be strong enough for a lightly modded cam. and a few higher rpms. They arent strong enough for a 415 lift spinning at 7300 rpms. I have proof just look up at the pics.
