With a 086 head swap....and I can help you make that happen. But you will be obligated to utilize 93 octane (Supreme gas) or slightly higher.

Then bigger cams, balance shaft delete, light forged internals, etc.

Talks of 10 second passes and not wanting to spend a lot of money don't exactly work out... unless you're talking 1/8th mile lol.

if ur looking to go faster read the performance faq, then post if u have questions.

some easy things to do (also cheap) would b motor mounts, tranny mounts, b+m short throw shifter/shift kit (depending on tranny type),intake, exhaust, header.

personally i'd look on ebay then stick a k+n on the end of it in replacement of the filter it came with.

but you could look up online a place to get a k+n, or aem or whatever type intake for ur car and it'll be pretty much idiot proof.

or you could make ur own, as alot of people have done.

Not sure what year car you have, but I just did a quick search on ebay and found Z24 intake for $15. I've bought two cheap intakes of ebay in the past, and was happy with them. They aren't perfect (my 2.2 intake used to rub on the bottom of the hood, making the intake all scratched an ugly, and the 2.4 was not the colour I ordered), but they are an improvement than stock.

By the way, the z24 factory intakes have this peice in them that changes the airflow, when you remove this peice, or swap the whole intake for an aftermarket one, it makes the engine sound alot more aggressive.

short ram intakes are the worst idea ever. unless its taking air from out of the engine bay, don't waste your money. the hotter/thinner the air is, the less fuel you will use, so you will have less power...why do ppl not understand this? i was working on someones ram with dual short ram intake and with the hood up, the air temp coming in was 173 degrees...why would that be good for performance? don't waste your time or money on cheap crap like that. my car with a STOCK intake system pulls in air at the same shop, same day as the ram, at 72 degrees, with the hood closed. why spend money to lose hp?

actually, people have logged IATs on these cars with both CAI and short ram intakes, and once the vehicle is moving, the difference was only about 4-5* F. so really, the difference isn't nearly as big as you say.

Sounds like your not ready for big engine mods. For a simple intake just type in 2.4 cavalier intake on ebay and you should find it. Good luck

Didn't really pay attention to your original post, my bad.

I still stand by the fact that a cheap ebay ram intake performs almost as well as a $200 CAI, if you want a CAI, I would say by a cheapo $10 ebay wai, and buy some extra pipe to make an extention. What alot of people don't seem to realize is that once the car is moving you have outside air flowing into the engine bay, its not like you are sucking in boiling hot air from around the engine, you are sucking in air that is flowing through your engine bay from outside. The only difference is a CAI doesn't allow the air to heat up quite as much, because it has a more direct flow from outside the car, to the tb. But like Rich Grayo said, the difference isn't much. Here is a link to an intake for your car: intake

I just found that quickly, double check everthing, and look around, you may find one you like more. Also usually if you send them an email they can send different colour filters/pipe if you request it.

Something else to consider is that on the Rams (almost all Dodge V6 and V8s) the IAT sensor is located in the aluminum intake manifold and it soaks up heat from the heads. Even driving down the road on a 30 degree day the IAT reads close to 150 degrees. And of course we all know where the sensor is on a stock Cavalier The Ram's just calibrated differently, it runs normally where a Cavalier would be retarding the timing. Just a different setup because they're measured in different spots.

Dont mean to go off topic but i figured i would post this in here since you guys are talkin about performace upgrades.
My motor for the most part sits right now with aftermarket polyurethane mounts, intake, header, and exhaust.
Im lookin at maybe throwin forged overbore pistons with a compression of 8:1 and stage 2-3 cams in it soon that way my motor is decently built for when i turbo or supercharge it...what is your guys outlook on runnin my motor with that for awhile without boost?
