Looking to get a flowmaster..not quite sure of the size, do I need 2 1/4?
Thanks!
Most of the time you measure exhaust by outer diameter. For example, the stock exhaust is 2" (or just barely smaller), outer diameter. When you go to the exhaust shop it doesn't matter, they have a machine that will expand the pipe that it's going on to, so they slip over each other, and then they weld it.
For example, if you get a 2" muffler, they'll put the muffler end on the machine and expand it just enough so it slides over your stock 2" pipe.
If worst comes to worst, they just make an adapter pipe as well. Get the bigger muffler if you want increased flow, pipe size for mating purposes isn't that important.
