Hey guys/gals. I am curious if any of you know any good FREE CAD programs for CNC'ing intake and exhaust flanges. I messed around with eMachineShop, and it works really well, but they don't have any algorithms for blending smooth transitions from two different surface shapes. I could just use a die grinder and smooth out the discontinuities, but I'd prefer everything to be as symmetric and smooth (hyperbolic shape) as possible to ensure even flow into each cylinder. Here is a shot of an intake flange for an 086 to 2" OD/1.75" ID tubing I drew up earlier.
Note: The port dimensions and bolt holes are just rough approximations (I don't have the dimensions here with me at school). I was just messing around with the program trying to get a feel for the software.

Can you export the file to an .igs or .step file?
I could add the fillets in solidworks for you....
It would take me no more than five minutes.

Me too, havent you seen all the models floating around on here, most of them are from me.
lol i get bored often
Ditto on the solidworks, if you need a copy I can hook you up with an older version maybe. My work is retiring some 2k5 licenses.

I would love a legal at home cop as well.

I can export to .igs. Thanks Mike, but like I said, I was just testing the software. The bolt holes and port sizings and spacing are not correct, so your efforts would be in vain. If you'd still like the file to play with, I can email you the .igs since I can't remember how to upload files here...just let me know.

If you could, I too would love a copy.

Solidworks for me please?
Listening........
I have a "copy" of Inventor, but being in the industry and using both of them at my current job, Solidoworks is much better than Inventor.
What even happend to good ol' AutoCAD?
At my last job I was the only one in the engineering dept that knew how to use it!
Needless to say it was a young engineering dept.
I use autocad and solidworks everyday.
I use autocad from the command line.

I learned on I-DEAS; apparently I'm the oddball. Use Solidworks now, although I-DEAS made quality FEA easier...
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
I use autocad all day everyday!!
I didnt realize that the org contained so many engineers?!
I wish I still had AutoCAD.....
Sad Panda.
I used autocad in highschool, I should have stuck with it lol.
yeah, the 3d modeling is awesome now, its easy to mock up custom parts for yourself as I do.
I have to say the money isnt too shabby either ..... lol
I would never be able to remember 2% of the commands for cad haha.
I do not have to remember them, they are in my brain.

definitely soildiworks > inventor, I used to like inventor a little better because the UI was better but now that inventor switch to that gay MS office 07 ribbon style thing I had to drink just it stop from shooting myself when I was trying to model in it. for some reason the ribbons in SW dont piss me off... oh maybe because the do this little novel thing like you know MAKE SENSE.

Do you see Autocad's command line like Neo saw the matrix?
I use mostly SLDWRKS, but i do use Autocad and ProE too. ProE is pretty damn nice, but I hate how it doesn't convert part horizons into a selectable line automatically....ugh, that $hit pisses me off. I mean c'mon...really ProE, can't kinda figure that I might want that?

Almost...
I VERY fast in AutoCad. I'm a lot slower in Solidworks.
