OBX-R 2.4 Intake Manifold

I did a search on the org. and really couldn't find many opinions about this intake manifold. I know the stock manifold's plastic so I figured an aluminum setup would be a nice increase. Just wondering if it's worth the $275-300 for this bolt-on. Thanks!

go to a junk yard and find you an HO manifold... then head over to OEM's website and get you the phenolic adapter for it... then with some slight modifications, you will have you an aluminum intake mani, and much cheaper (And most of us with non-stock manis run the HO)

HO is best if run with much larger (preferably the HO again) cams. otherwise, the 2.3LO intake mani is better. especially with the Secret Cam swap.

I'm going to have to check tomorrow, but I thought the 2.4 mani was metal. . .

DO NOT BUY IT. JUNK JUNK JUNK

the ports do not line up.

it does not have the pcv channels in the flange.

the throttle cable rotator smacks the piping.

Not worth the money.

However a HO manifold makes less power on an otherwise stock LD9.

Just a quick question on this.. because i keep on seeing it..

Everyone keeps talking about swapping HO parts... manifold, oil pump etc... my question is... how many of these 2.3's are even out there? when where they made?
I only ask because i've known many many guys over the years with these j-bodies, and i never heard of the 2.3 before i came on this site.. lol

Quad4 forums
that should answer any/all questions about the 2.3 and its different variations, and what cars they came in.
but the short version, the only J-bodies to get the 2.3L were the '95 years. it was a transitional year for the Quad4. in '96 they brought about the 2.4L, which remained until mid 02.
the 2.3 was availible in several different variations from the mid-late 80's(i wanna say 87 or 88?) to '95 in many different models, like the Achieva, Calais, Beretta, etc. but not in a J until 95, and that version was like a cross between the earlier quad4's and the 2.4. the HO was a higher powered version of the early motor, and the W41 was the highest powered version of a quad4 motor availible from the factory. many many parts are interchangable. just look around Q4forums, or here for the hundreds of posts on the subject.

BACK ON TOPIC! lol.

the OBX intake manifold is indeed junk, and as stated before the ports don't lineup and there is no PCV channel or gasket seat in the flange. it's supposed to be a Venom knockoff, but it's total garbage. there's a post somewhere around here that used to have pics. that was quite a while ago though.
here's a couple pics i have comparing the Venom to the OBX from when i was looking to see if the Venom i was buying was the real thing, lol.
OBX:

Venom:

you can clearly see the lack of a channel/gasket seat in the OBX, and if you look close enough you'll see that the ports on the OBX don't even come close to where they're supposed to be, in relation to the bolt holes. some of the ports are closer to the bolt holes on the venom, and believe me that one lines up great.

I was fixing to pick one up..
"otherwise stock LD9" mines got a pacsetter header. borla muffler and CAI.
Would it do anything with that set up or would I be better off with the 2.4 mani till I can afford the secret cam swap?

keep the 2.4 mani until you:

P&P the head
run HO or are larger cams (secret cams are a mild swap)
