so i'm looking to replace my cat. the magnaflow ive had for about 2 years has broke apart on me and is rattling real bad. what do you guys recommend... (keep in mind i live in virginia, we have state inspection that states the cat must be there, and i am an inspector and can lose my license if its not there.......... also i have an exhaust cutout for track use...)

Clyde suggested i go with http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DTC-79-400250/ ... what else is out there

i've been using one of these for 3+ years now, no CEL, no rust, no leaks. looks very similar to that dynatech you posted kyle, but for MUCH cheaper.

are you able to get one w/o the o2 hole...

my new Atomic piping has the rear o2 hole already directly after the cat

don't know, never cared to find out. HOWEVER, it has seen three jersey winters, and there's not one spot of rust on it.

2.5" cat gutted and cut to fit a 3" pipe striaght through. Cat just needs to be welded to the pipe and looks like there is a cat still in place.

I run a catco from summit. It was expensive tho since I bought a direct bolt on to go to the stock manifold. Its since been cut and welded to my pacesetter header. Diameter may be too small for you tho. I think it is smaller than my 2.25 piping

I suggested the dynatech over a Magnaflow because of my past experience with three Magnaflows failing. Didnt know a M45 could produce 15PSI till my cat broke up and lodged in the exhaust. However the 15 PSI was short lived as a loud pop and kick in the car was followed by a massive cloud of white debris as the cat left its home and exited out my tail pipe. My last cat was hollowed out after it plugged solid about 50 miles from home.

Hi Kyle, I got the generic high flow cat 5 years ago. it's stainless, mine had no hole for 02 bung (drilled and put bung in), i just checked it a few weeks ago and it's still shiny and looking perfect.

Thanks Rich! I actually need a new cat I think, my CEL P0420 keeps coming back, and with 136,700 miles I was figuring the cat was on it's way out. I was ready to drop $200 or more on a new cat, as long as it passes NY Emissions (a CEL code check) then I'm all set.
