Ok those who live in the VA- Hampton area or VA in general, It rain something vicious yesterday and so there was some what flood areas. Driving home i ran threw well alot of them being that i had no choice, anyway i get home pull the parking break to park (duh) and hall ash to the house......NEXT DAY! crank car up load the the fam in proceed to drive out of the parkin lot and ride over 3 foot mountain of a speed bump. So i gather some speed hit the break to slow down the BOOM from the back of the car...feels like when i hit the breaks am engaging the freaking E-BREAKS! but it feels like its on one side of the car meaning the drivers side. My hypothesis, I think when i went threw the flood waters and came home and engaged the e-break i didnt allow the back breaks to dry? i guess that the left rear brake had rust shut? dont know like i said you guys are the masters so i need help like yesterday..o p.s sry i know wrong area but i dont know how many people respond on the break and sups so again sry
Try a hard stop going in reverse.
k but will that do any damage to the brake cause when i hit the breaks with regular pressure it hits like i nailed the break and the e-break at the same time
ok i tryed in reverse and it didnt make the bang sound it acted normal all engaged at the same time smooth LIKE IT SHOULD BE WHEN AM BRAKING FORWARD!! so what does this mean? i called tread quarters and asked them sense there familiar with the brakes in general and they said that theres stuff in the drum that needs to be cleaned out....eh i dont get how that would cause the brakes to act that way maybe you all can make sense of that. But the first trick didnt work or is there more to the trick that am doing, cause am smashing the brakes in reveres and it works fine! so yeah hit me up!....please...
It's a common problem with these cars. When it rains, the drums rust up and grab like crazy. Get the drums re-surfaced and take some rough sandpaper to the edges and burs on the shoes. This wont FIX it, but make it bearable. You're stuck with it until you get rid of the car or upgrade to a rear disk setup. When this happens to me, I get going about 30 MPH and gradually pull the e-brake to clean the rust off. It wont work if you lock the tires up, so make sure you pull gradually. Also, this is a maintenance question, not performance...
