i just bought a 99 z24 it it needs a rebuild and was wondering if the secret cam swap would be good
to do with the rebuild and if a master rebuild kit has all the gaskets need for it and is it good for a dd
and also is the 2.3 oil pump swap hard to do this will be my first rebuild if i do the 2.3 swap i will have a machine
shop drill the needed holes and how well does the 2.3 benefit the motor and is there any thing else i should add to
it while im there

The secret cams are ok...not a huge power adder and unless you plan on a port and polish job on the head they wont make the car much faster just shift the power band. The 2.3 oil pump swap is a little difficult, if you do it wrong im sure you could destroy the block. It is a good swap though because the 2.4 pump is said to cavitate at higher rpms and this fixes that.I would think a master kit would cover it all but unless you give us more information on the specific one your talking about we cant be sure.
Forged rods and pistons are always a nice upgrade along with better than stock bearings. SS valves could be a good upgrade too. And of course an intake and exhaust would be beneficial.
I would just stick with the LD9 pump for now. Unless you want to get the hole assembly balanced. In my opinion I wouldn't do the 2.3 pump with out a fully balanced rotating assembly.
What are your goals?

For a fun daily driver the 2.3 pump isn a necesity but will help your engine live longer.

what about the ho intake manifold
speed kills save lives drive a honda
the 2.3 swap should be done with a budget of 4000 - 5000 for an N/A build
the ho intake manifold will not help you unless you boost, or you fully port and polish the head and run HO cams or bigger. You also should run a phenolic spacer to keep temps down
this is what im looking at doing rebuild the motor full exhaust already has intake under drive pulleys 2.2 coil swap
is there any thing u would suggest i have another cavalier so i dont mind if its a little raw

i just got done rebuilding my motor in my 99 2.4l and if your looking for a kit with everything i got mine at importperformanceparts.net the kit was 979 dollars and i add the eagle rods for another 309 dollars.
what would be the best for me to spend my money with my budget of 1200- 1500

LOL @ this thread. apparently not enough LD9's have blown up yet for people to understand that even in BONE STOCK form the oil pump sucks ass.
a 2.3 oil pump swap is a necessity for ANY build, stock or otherwise in my book.

I don't know Brad.
I've got 197K on the odo with the stock oil pump and you know how much I've raced the car along with it being driven quite hard during it's life.
I didn't mention the other 4 owners before me probably beat on the car too so in reality, the stock oil pump should do fine for a daily driver or decently built n/a car.
Good luck with it.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
I like the idea of the 2.3 pump but if your not gonna romp on it all the time and pull to 6500 rpms constantly the stock pump can last. My vert is running strong at 195k and original engine as far as I know. I have personally been tossing the idea of getting my balance shafts neutralized and a melling pump for its next engine.
certainly there are exceptions... the ones who maintain oil level well and due regular changes seem to have better luck but in reality most LD9s die of the same failure... spun rod bearing.

I did the melling direct replacement, I'm interested to see how that runs (if I ever get my car finished and running again this summer). Put 63,000km on the motor since it was last rebuilt and 40+ of them were s/c and my motor had no abnormal signs of wear when it was pulled apart.
wat about the w41 swap what are the advantages and disadvantages to it and how well would it do in a car driven almost daily i know i would probably
have to change the springs is there any thing else that needs to be to be done
