I have a 98 cav with a 2.2 and a 5 spd. I want to put in a 2.4 with a 5 spd. I have a 97 cav 2.4 with the PCM and harness. These came from a car with an automatic. (Still searching for 5spd) 1) Is there a physical difference in the PCM from a 2.2 to a 2.4 or is it just the flash? 2) Will the engine run right with the 5 speed even though the PCM and harness are from an auto? I realize that there will be warning lights but I'm not concerned because this is for an off road application. I have been searching the past post and see that the PCM can be re-flashed for a manual trans but if I don't care about the warning lights, speedo, and having reverse lights do I really need to get it re-flashed and get the other harness? Thanks.
You can install the 97 PCM and harness, all that will happen is warning lights because of the lack of the auto trans. The engine should run the same. Granted I have not done this myself but I have read it on here several times.
Thanks Z. I've been sifting through old posts for a couple days and only found a couple talking about having to reflash and none said it would work without it.
