Underdrive Pulley and Header install
Sunday, October 17, 2010 12:21 PM
Installing my header and Pulley tomorrow
125k km's on ecotec
Any advice or warnings of something I should over prepare for? I figure the bolts will be very tight on the header, and i've been recommended to get a pulley puller... but idk if I need it for a slotted drive pulley on the eco?
Also... should I replace the pulley bolt or header gasket???

You will need a puller and always use a new header gasket.

Only reason i couldn't install a u-dox pulley on my z24 is because i didn't have air tools so i had to pay someone to do it, so i hope you have them and its cake. Oh and no need to replace the pulley bolt unless you mess it up some how, i would recomend a stock replacement exhaust manifold gasket because the one that comes with the header is crap (OBX header) and they will leak no matter what, this is from experience. Other than that have fun!!

I used a 28 inch and it came off easy. Im sure with some elbow grease you'll be fine.

one more question....
is it reverse thread???

As far as the bolts on the header, and the bolt on the pulley... should I use some sort of bolt tightener?

Shouldn't need a pulley puller on the Eco, they usually fall off.

It is, and per the GM build book, every time you remove the crank pulley on an ecotec you need to replace the crank pulley bolt.

The eco stock crank pulley should almost slide right off.

Ok so i'll grab a new bolt... but can someone explain what it means by Torque to yield?

installed with no problems (yet and hopefully forever)
changed the front crank seal as it was stiff
pulley fell off and wasn't torqued on very much
had a belt, but needed a different size, rematched with little problem
all in all, a good easy mod, and feeling the faster engine rpm drop when shifting is definitly notciable
