Maybe this need to be in the maintenance forum or maybe not. I don't know. I am workin on a 97 cav sedan with 2.2. Has a no start situation. Has codes p0342(CMP Sensor Circuit Signal Low) and p0404(EGR Feedback Out of Range). I have 12V at red wire to CMP and good ground at pink/black wire. Also getting a good square wave out of the brown/white wire. I am getting fuel and spark. EGR is newish and just replaced the CMP and still no start after clearing codes. It just seems to crank endlessly. I am hoping the J-Body or LN2 elites have some insight. Thank you in advance for any insight.
A correction: I had a low voltage square wave before changing CMP. It is good now
I decided to do a compression test and there is no compression an any cylinders. Leaning toward timing chain.
If the car in-question has a lot of miles, don't be surprised. The pre-'98 LN2 chain tends to be prone to failure around 80-100K-mi... In the S-truck version, at-least. I just hope yours hasn't been fragmented & been feed through the oiling-system yet, like mine was when I got it. If it is, prepare to buy a new long-block. (Trust me)
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
