Well chalk up another destroyed fidanza flywheel! I know, I know, I deserved it for putting the frickin thing on. I'll post carnage pics in a few days. First time really playing around with the car since I put the motor in, I did a good pull in third and I was letting the motor slow me down when it let loose. It popped a hole in my tranny case too so if anyone has just the flywheel side of the tranny case let me know.
Send pics and when / where you bought it to shawn@Fidanza.com he'll do his best to fix the problem.

Thanks Mike. I bought it used off Mr. Pute a while ago so I doubt it will be of any help.
damn man, sorry that happened to ya.
i believe your's is somewhere in the neighborhood of the 5th or 6th JBO documented fidanza flywheel failure. ill never own a fidanza flywheel as long as i live.
Well if it is Mr. Putes it is the first design. There is something like 50 or something like that of the first design out in the LD9 wilderness.

Does that number include the Fidanza/RK Sport? I've got one of those laying on the table that I took off my car last spring/summer. When I replaced my clutch I also replaced my flywheel with a Spec wheel. Comparing the two, the RK center is about .060 thiner then the Spec...

Thanks man. It was pretty discouraging honestly. I was just starting to get used to taking off with that flywheel too. I'm going back to the stock flywheel but really need to find the trans housing. Trying to find a 2.4 getrag around here is like trying to hit the mega millions.
I am one of the lucky "50" myself. I thought all the old ones were either broke or replaced. Sorry to hear about your explosion. I had the exact same damage. I did get lucky to find a case. One word of caution, either shim that tranny or hire a pro to do it. You will wear out your new beariings in no time. I didn't make it a year before I noticed a problem and had to pull the tranny aggain. grrr.
Fidenza did send me a new , redesigned C9. I have been toying with the idea of putting the new one in but I am worried tlhat one may explode too. Good luck.

Old man, yes RKsport/Fidanza/Spec all used Fidanza for the older flywheels. Spec I believe still uses Fidanza for their flywheels for J-bodies.
I think that RK got them from spec, who got them from Fidanza...or something like that.

They must have changed attitude since mine let loose three years ago. I was treated like crap and called a liar when I told them that I wasn't the first to have this problem. Between my flywheel issue and spec clutch problems, I know two companies I will never deal with again.
dan.. are you running the stepped izuzu style clutch/flywheel or the getrag flat style setup?
if isuzu stepped style look into an aasco flywheel. its the same one unorthodox used to sell and its bulletproof.
if not and you have the getrag style, you can lighten the absolute piss out of it to the tune of around 7.1 pounds. i dont know if tim from mantapart would still do one or not but you can email him and find out... (hotsfgt@hotmail.com)
The threads pulled out of my Fidanza flywheel ....
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

Brad, I have the getrag setup. I need to have my car back running as I'm borrowing a friends truck right now. After this experience I know I won't run another aluminum flywheel but I'll look into getting another stocker to lighten. Thanks for the help!
I also had an issue with a Fidanza flywheel a couple years ago on a 3400/getrag swap. The holes for the bolts that secure it to the crank actually ovalled, ALL OF THEM. The bolts were still tight, but the flywheel still had play in it. That was after MAYBE 8000km. Repalced it with a stocker and still no issues after 50,000km.
You guys are scaring me...... Pic of said destruction?
I'm working on getting pics. Sorry guys!
I would put that on my wall. lol.
Holy... How is Fidanza still in buisiness if they're flywheels do this???

because (from what i understand) failures are very few and far between outside of our little world here. for whatever reason, we seem to be the only 'crowd' that has ever had consistant problems with them. i tell friends about why i didnt go with fidanza and they don't believe me when i tell them @!#$ like this.
def sucks about the flywheel though, hope you get it all back together.

Mine did the exact same thing a few years ago. I think I posted up on here. Not sure on the miles but it was in the car for just over a year on a daily driver, motor just had bolt-ons. Pulling out in traffic on my lunch it let go when I grabbed second. Limped it back to work about 1/4 mile down the road. Shop I took it to just welded the case, put a stocker flywheel in, said the clutch was fine. Its been around 3 years now, plan on lighting up the stocker when I get around to building a new engine. Sucks to see another person suffer.
Pics of mine for comparison:

Hrmm, all this carnage looks awful. I bought mine back in 2006, finally got it in a month or so ago with a hair bit less than 1k Miles on it. No problems yet, but I would hate to have it rip apart on me. Just forked out little less than $1100 for new Spider gears as well as the Flywheel swap with an ACT Clutch. Shifts smoother than a baby's ass and revs a lot quicker than it used to.
Try this part Exedy GF501. I am running this flywheel setup with a 6 puck ceramic Competition Clutch. This flywheel is for the 2.2L Cobalts but the stock flywheel part numbers are the same for the 03-05 ecotec cavaliers. I know that you guy are running the old Z-24 motors but if this is a problem across the J-body platform then this is a new and better option than the aluminum one. This flywheel just over 10lbs. hope this info is useful.
