Swapping 2.4's

So im going to be doing a engine transplant from a 98 cav auto into a 2001 cav standard.

I have no problem swapping the trans stuff and such but when it comes to the actual engines what is the differences?

I know there is some differences that I have to take care of so it doesnt throw a code and of course runs.

Any help would be appreciated...Phil

the knock sensor is different... you'll need to get a helicoil because the 2001 knock is smaller and only has 2 wires vs 3. Also the 01 does not have EGR, so you can eliminate that in your swap. i assume you are using the 2001 PCM and Transmission... if not, you'll need a 2001 PCM for auto, or use the 98 PCM, wiring, and you'll need to swap the cluster and all the wiring behind the dash (it would be easier to swap the pcm, vs all that wiring) You will also need to use the 2001 injectors with the 2001 PCM (they are high impedance)

So in summary....

-98 engine/with 2001 trans
-2001injectors
-helicoil for the knock sensor
-egr block off

So really its just a straight swap other then making a egr block off plate and the heli coil for the knock sensor and swapping the injectors over.

Anyone know the size heli coil I need for the knock sensor?

use a 2001 exhaust manifold gasket, this will block off the exhaust side of of the EGR... GM left the 2000+ motors with gaping holes where the EGR should have been...

i don't know off hand, but i know you can search the forum and find the size... there should be a thread i created asking the same question about a year and a half ago...
