2200 sfi exhaust setup help
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 11:42 AM
sooo ive been searching and searching and haven't really found a answer to this question soo here it goes ......im getting the pacesetter headers and planning on running 2.5in the rest of the way back i am getting a high flow cat and the borla pro xs ... was wondering if adding a glasspack to this equation would give me a deeper more mellow sound and if soo how long should it be... also does the muffler tip change the sound of a exhaust

I would get a turbo muffler. A glasspack would work but from my experiance will be a lot louder because of the baffling

I run header to no cat, 30" magnaflow res, to a magnaflow stainless muffler. Sounds decent for how lousy these engines sound

i was gonna go with magnaflow untill alot of my friends that build v8's said they were very restrictive

glasspack will work rather nicely as a resonator, I'm currently running one, when my car is running that is.

I need a new sig.

magna flows arent restrictive, they have a straight through design which is less restrictive than a chambered design or a turbo design. Their downfall is that they use fiberglass packing which will burn out eventually.

Just go with the glasspack, I just have a header, cat and muffler and I need to add a resonator. Not saying the sound's horrible but it could be mellowed down a little lol

I would also recommend getting the largest glasspack/resonator after the cat before the bend. It will help to get rid of that constant drone, and some of the "ricer" sounding exhaust. I personally have the magnaflow, because it was the least restrictive, straight through design. I didn't know they wear out like the poster above said, so i'll need to keep an eye out for that. I think I fit an 18" after the cat. It all depends on where they weld the cat.

I'll say it before, and i'll say it again

the LSJ muffler off a cobalt SS supercharged, is dyno proven to flow as well as any aftermarket muffler, without the rice grinder noise...

I am currently running a Ron header, no cat, no res, LSJ Muffler, and the car is only slightly louder than stock. I have a little rasp, but this is only because of the gutted cat. When i replace that, I'll have no rasp. (Waiting to get my tune right)

Atomic Fabrications makes a good Mandrel exhaust system... They use Vbands instead of flanges as well.

Best place I've found so far, but I don't have the $ together yet. I've not actually bought anything.

im currently running and RKsport 4-2-1 header at $425, to a high flow spun cat $180 and then a vibrant muffler $650, with 2.5 inch piping sounds amazing super deep sound almost replicates the sound of a subaru no lie. also flows well as most people will say for better sound and flow you need to pay for it. it might not be what everyone else likes but i love the set up.

I'd just find a decent exhaust shop and have them weld it up. The shop I used supplied the pipe and welded everything up for $60, well worth it imo

yea if i can find a shop to do it cheap ill probly do that but i dont know if they will charge me extra to put my header on not trying to drive my car to the shop with just the header
