hey, i have the 2002 2200 and i want to get more compression but im not sure how much i can shave off the head before i have problems with valves hitting the pistons. i also want to port and polish the head. if i get that done is there anything else that has to be changed?
Bigger valves, better springs, better rockers. If you get every thing done right. You can male your car red line at 7 or 8 grand. Or at least that's how my buddy's neon does. I've looked into doing it for my car. Its going to be expensive, but over all u can gain around 30hp.

Your not going to gain 30hp from that..... It will breathe better, but with out a proper cam, there is no point in reving that high either... Its not making any power up there...
P&P Tuning
420.5whp / 359.8wtq
In my buddy's neon it red lines at 8a grand and its still pulling at that. Bit its a diffrwnt engine but still
a neon and a cavalier have different motors and transmissions so you cant go by what your buddys neon does
green twat waffle
At least 7 grand man. There's goting be some power up there. Only if you do every thing right.
Ryan your going to need a cam that has a different power band. Plain and simple, the stock cam wasn't designed to make power up that high.
Okay... so I for got to list a better cam on there. When I do my head the only thing that's going to be stock is the head casting. If every thing is done what type of power gains are we looking at since my estimate of 30the is wrong.
...why would you keep that restrictive exhaust port there if you build the head?
What r u talking about Dave?
you didn't list port and polish in your list either...
Bigger valves allow for more flow... but without bigger intake and exhuast ports... you won't have the air to flow...
Better springs help you redline higher without valve float, allow to you to run a higher lift cam without coil bind.. etc... on a stock cam, better springs just help with reliability.
Rocker arms are a nice upgrade... but make an already noisy valve train noiser. Usually to get the full effect of roller rockers, its good to also get a roller cam...
there's a lot more to the head, than just the internals you put in there... and you can only do so much with an 8 valve head...
please don't compare other engines than the one that we are discussing... every engine is different. In fact neons come with either SOHC or DOHC... the 2200/LN2 is neither... your argument is null and void...

Sorry I wasn't descriptive enough for you -__-
descriptive isn't the correct word... Welcome to the world of forums. We cannot assume from what you don't mention.
