My sister got the car as a beater for like 500 bucks or sumtin, It had a stripped spark plug tho, after fixing that and rebuilding the rest of the engine while i was in there, i found out theres a tranny leak, did some searching, couldnt find anything on swaps (its an automatic), is there a manual tranny that will mate up to the 3.1 L V6?
And yes, im a mechanic, so dont say "itl be hard" etc etc, i just need to know, is there one that is doable without frame modifications.
oh, and hello, im new n @!#$, The cavy will be in my name in 3-4 months when she gets back from AIT (army) and gets a new car, at that point ill be doing a manual swap, or prolly putting a new engine and tranny in if a 5 spd wont bolt up to the 3.1.
this cavy is gonna get a vader body kit, skyline wing, and some old ADR limited limix 17 inch rims i have layin around. And itl be a beater at that lol. Im considering boosting it and gutting the whole interior n usin it for drifting or sumtin stupid like that.
Ill try and get pics tommorow, Its a teal, rust bucket, Im going to strip the stock body kit thats on it, (back bumper, side skirts and the front bumper) Remove any and all rust, strip the body down to metal, and start over, Cant decide on a color, maybe green w/ some custom graphics, and ill be doing all that work myself to. Im gonna use the cavy as a chance to practice w/ my new spray gun i got ~_~ lol. never painted before so itl be itnresting.

Okie, well heres my baby, 1996 dodge avenger, custom performance built engine, tc1 body kit, adr limited limix rims, m3 mirrors, custom interior, sound system etc etc, custom paint coming in 07, Hopefully ill get to a meet one of these days either w/ the venge or the cavy if there is one anytime soon.

must not have worked on alot of anything.
2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5, 3.8, 3.9 all have the same bellhouseings, thus meening that any 60 degree v-6 5 speed tranny will work on any of thies motors. also, the 2.2 OHV has the same bellhousing, but untill 2000, it was the weaker isszu tranny.
do a search for a 93-94 cavalier\sunfire 5 speed, (for internal slave) or 90-92 (for external slave) im 90 % shure that the 2ed gen J body tranny mount is the same.

i know little to nothing about trannys, im only 18, ive been studying @!#$ about cars for about 11 months now. And i do work on various cars for friends and relatives, and at a shop in town every now and than if they get over booked. Im going to college for it in the spring tho
Was just some concern, cuz i have a 96 avenger, and to make that a 5 spd w/ a v6 requires modifying the frame so the tranny will fit. as lon gas that isnt an issue w/ the 3.1's im good, i didnt do much research to see if a 5 spd version was even made for them lol. ive been busy.

Nah id idnt call u today, the cavy wont be in my name for 2-3 months (its in my sisters tillshes back from the army) at that point ill be looking into it more heavily.
out of curiosity tho. what is a time frame for the swap, and what is an estimated cost?

i had to do this (kindof) with my GTZ. but at least that came with a 5spd. it just dident have ANYTHING in it.

Im guessing at least 1 to 1.5 k. Thats if i find a cheap tranny to swap in...
And body work is coming first.. cuz i rebuilt the 3.1 thats in the bitch now. and it runs perfect (except for a timing issue, i dont have a timing gun
so thatl get fixed soon)
the tranny has a leak tho... and i gotta refill it every 2-3 weeks, so im better off just swapping it in my opinion, cuz the engine looked like itl be good for another 100k if i treat it right.
body work first, cuz of the rust... and that nasty stock teal lookin color
