i got a set of hid's and am having a problem with them.... they are not in the car right now cause i'm having problems with my headlights but i want to get this solved before i need to install them.... I installed them in the car like a month ago and they wouldn't turn on with the headlights on so we tried it a couple of times and nothing so we hooked them up to the battery to see if they were good and they worked, now my friend today said that i might need a relay or something like that and i just wont peoples opinion on this thanks Alex

the relay might be bad, this happened to me before with my hids, i was lost until i remembered there was a relay on the harness for the hids, so i flicked my lights on, nothing happened, smacked the relay with the handle side of a screwdriver and the relay became unstuck until i turned off the lights. Then i couldnt turn them back on cause the relay was stuck again and the relay was under my headlight, i had a warranty on the kit, so the dealer just have me a whole new harness, havent had a problem since. with the hids out of the car are the lights turning on normally? if they are then i would say relay.

some have the termnal backwards, if you modify the plug on your stock harness o that you can intall "backwards" it hould work, that what i did with mine, work pretty good

there is no relay with my hid kit.... but the guy that i bought them off of said that i could switch the wires around on the harness ( just switch two of them) to try that and that didnt work either...... as for my normal lights working when truned on the drivers side is only at like half light and same on high beams and i have no day time lights. The relay for the drl's on the drivers side in the dash at the door ...when i put the car in gear it buzzes and i have tried changing that and it didnt work

it's because the stock wiring isn't supplying your hid with enough power to make them ignite. what you have to do it make or buy a separate wiring harness with relays that will connect directly to the battery to supply the extra power they need to ignite

here's a link to some that are for sale on ebay right now

2 reasons - both mentioned.

Plug wiring on the HID kit is backwards. This is VERY common. turn the plug around and try to fire them. One at a time.

Your headlight harness should have enough juice to fire ONE ballast and igniter. If not, you have other issues. lol.

Overall your safest and best bet is to invest in a $20 "HID Relay Harness"

It adds a relay and diode so that you plug the HID kit into the relay harness and connect the other side to the battery. This way the battery is supplying power through thicker gauge wires instead of the piddly 18 gauge wire the headlight harness has.
