Anyone ever had this happen?

i was stopped at a light and when it turned green i took off in 1st like always (i wasnt gettin on it, this was jus cruisin) and when i shifted from 1st to 2nd it didnt "click" out of 1st like it usually does and jus felt like there was nothin there but it went into 2nd with that same mushy, sloppy feelin in the shifter. when i tried to go to 3rd it wouldn't come out of 2nd. i popped the shift cables off of the shift control on the tranny and they move freely so its not the cables. the shaft that goes into to tranny from there looks like its come out about a half inch or so. i called the guy that rebuilt it (2 months ago) and he said its just a push pin at the bottom of the shift control assembly. he said that whole assembly just comes off and i could change the pin easily but the trans has to come out to do it. So if hes right, i have a 10 hr job to change a 15cent part! Has n e 1 had this problem b4 or know how to deal with this without removing the trans??

I've had that happen before, and then it got stuck in 3rd and eventually it stalled, but when I started it again it was fine.

when I did my ECO swap, we found out (after the motor was in) that the shifter arm was snapped in half and JB'ed back together.. we had to knock out the pin you mentioned and put another arm on.. like your guy said, we had to pull the motor/tranny back out 'cause there's no room to manuever in there
