I have a 1988 chevrolet cavalier 4 cyl 2.0 engine fuel injection TBI.
My problem is I have a lot of trouble starting my car. It cranks over almost to the point of killing the battery before it actually starts.
Once it's started it seems to run good lots of power. The problem is to get it started.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin
Most fuel systems have a 2-3 second "prime" energisation of the fuel pump then the oil pressure switch contacts close to supply the pump from then on.
It's a long shot but maybe the "prime" circuit is faulty in some way and you have to crank the engine until the oil pressure contacts close and there is enough fuel delivered for a start.
Once this happens the car will run normally.
Is it only on the first start-does it start quickly once the initial start of the day is over.?

can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition key to the on position?
Hi Thanks for replying to my post.
Yes definitly the fuel pump is working. It does restart after the initial start better, However it still seems to take too much cranking.
Thanks
Kevin
