just bought a 89 z24 conv 5 speed. i got some questions. what kind of trans? rebuild kits for it? motor swaps? biggest possible without extensive work.. intake ideas? exhaust routing? dual or single? got rims from an 04 z24- 16s.. tires and suspension combos? subtle body kits? nothin flashy or cheesy.. roll bar or cage ideas? needs disc brakes in back... biggers discs in back... Better seats? weight reduction? even audio ideas? if anyone has dealt with this before or know where i can find parts please let me know.
appreciate the help, J. J. Hone (Hone Performance)
ive also got an idle problem. idles high(2000-1000) and kills over occasionally. probably a standard vacuum lek but... any body had the same problem. i replaced the IAC valve ran great for a few hours then back to the same stuff
Its most likely the Getrag/Muncie style transmission in your car, but back in 89 they also still put Isuzu's with the V6's as well.
If you take a look at your trans end plate through the wheel well you'd be able to tell.

For engine swaps. The easiest engine swap per $ and HP gain due to swap would be dropping in a 96-present model 3400 V6. For more info on how to swap one of these into a Jbody go to www.domesticcrew.com We have a site dedicated to this type of swap. 3400 factory specs is 185HP. Which right out of the box will net you a decent 14.7-15.0 1/4 mile time with a bone stock motor nothing done to it.
