hey guys i ahve been around second gens for a long time i race them on an oval track, fully gutted with a cage. i am moving up into an almost unlimited division. motor is taken care of, we have to run carb and distributor but i got that out of the way to. the track is a high handling track. id liek to know if anyone makes swaybars for these cars as well as stiffer struts. shocks i already have and springs are taken care of any advice. we run 215/60/13 american racer race tires
What kind of shocks do you have? What kind of springs? KYB struts are probably the stiffest off the shelf, but you can build stiffer ones if you want.
You're best bet for sway bars is to use the factory ones available with the FE3 suspension package. Or whip up some custom brackets and use a universal bar.
addco makes 30mm front and 26mm rear bars for 1st/2nd gens. the front is the same size as the fe3 bars but it is made from stiffer metal.
for struts, kyb will drop right in. koni yellows would be a better choice. you can use a 3rd gen insert in the front, but im not sure what shock you use in the back (saab 9000 comes to mind though).
we use shocks from an 85 spectrum they ar about 3 inches shorter so it tightens the back up. front struts right now are stock buyt the springs are cut and heated to make them really stiff. i have teh z24 bars on it now
i deffinitly wouldnt run heated springs, they tend to crack and break. if that happens on a track at high speeds, you will visit the wall. id consider eibach pro kit springs for a real stiff spring.
if you are looking on spending some money on getting it to corner better, here is what i would do
-koni yellows (3rd gen front, saab 9000 rear)
-eibach pro kit
-urethane controll arm and swaybar bushings
-addco swaybars front and rear.
that will tighten the car up a lot.
^^^listen to that guy.....and NO heated springs!
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

exactly... I can not specify enough on DO NOT HEAT OR RIG the springs in anyway. just spend the extra few bucks and buy some.
**changes are here**
aftermarket springs are illegal and the car is low so i would have to cut aftermarket springs. i knwo about not heating the springs but it is the only thing thaat gets it stiff enough. would the car be loose if i unhook the rear sway?
u cant use aftermarket springs? that sucks.....lol
i would be scared to heat em, somthin might break easier that way.
just use worn out springs, they sit lower and might not snap....(thats a joke, dont do that)

Its not a Saab 9000, its a 900NG (which is basically the updated version of the 9000). The 9000 shocks won't work.
I don't know what personal feelings are on bending the rules, but custom Canuck motorsports springs are stiffer than the Eibachs, straight rate (same coil count as stock), 1" lower, and painted black, none of which would tip off the tech guy.
If you unhook the rear sway bar, it will understeer at first, and then transfer real quick to oversteer. Can you run spring rubbers? I would throw some in the rear, set the preload on the front bar to bias the left side, and give yourelf a bit more positive caster on the left front. That would require slotting the upper strut mount holes, which I'm not sure would fly with your rules.
dont know if we can adjust caster i am guessing we just have to use stock springs we can use boosters
are u allowed to weld?
