5sp Transmission Mount

I need to order a new manual tranny mount like yesterday. GM lists these parts:

88-91 22576130
92-94 22565302

(I've got a 90 2.2)

Dealer doesn't have the 22576130, so I'm wondering if I can use the other one.

Anyone know if the 92-94 part would fit on my 90?

Whatever you do, don't buy one of the crappy ones from advance auto. I did, spent like $40 and the thing is garbage. It doesn't work any better than the one that was originally on the car from 1990, and was a total waste of cash. I guess the JBP urethane mount is next on my list. And I'm pretty sure the POS mount was made by Anchor, so avoid them if you don't like your tranny moving like 3 inches back and forth.

Thanks, I had Anchor on my list as a backup, but I don't really trust them. I'm waiting on the dealer to respond to my fit question, but I don't really trust them either. They've given me the wrong part many times before.

Did your steering column travel at all when your mounts went bad? Mine will move up and down like maybe an 1/8" or so. I figure it's due to my bad engine and tranny mounts, but I'm not sure. Could be an indication of a bigger problem.

Yes, it will work fine. All the mounts (2.2/3.1/2.8/auto/manual) are all interchangeable. Some of them have a little more "meat" (rubber) than others, but they will all fit.

Good News! Thanks!

Got a 1 lb can of two part poly from McCaster Carr. It's 60 Shore A, roughly the consistency of tire tread I'm told. I'm getting ready to order all 4 engine/tranny mounts and fill any voids they have with poly. Don't know how far the can will go (25 cu.in.), but other than suspension mounts: Are there any other mounts I should consider while I'm at it?

dont bother. i filled my engine mounts about 8 months ago and im having to change them again. the rubber in them moves to much and causes the urethane to crack.

your best bet it to get some used mounts and get all the rubber out of them and then fill them with urethane, making a complete urethane mount.

Did you use two-part casting urethane or window weld? Did you use new mounts?

I like the idea of yanking the rubber out and making them all poly, but I haven't pulled them yet so I'm sure how to do that. Seems you'd need a metal sleeve of some kind to line the hole.

yea i had them professionaly done. the urethane was hard like it should be, but the rubber in the mount was soft and allowed movment, and that ended up shattering the urethane. before that i had window urethane filled mounts and they actualy lasted a long time (still together actualy). the reason i changed them to real urethane was because i wanted new mounts with my new motor.

you need to yank out the rubber, and use just the outer part and the metal insert, and fill it with urethane. i think the best way to do it is make a jig off the old mounts before you cut them apart. basicly use a peice of wood and some screws, put the screws in around the outside of the mount, and screws in the holes to align the inner peice. then take the mount out, cut the rubber out, put the peices back into the jig, and pour the urethane. i guess it would be wise to use some wax paper or something on the jig so the urethane doesnt stick to the wood.

basicly, that would give you the same thing jbp sells, and if you do it with used mounts, itll cost less than $100 in urethane.

I like that part. Sounds like something that's worth doing.

Thanks for the instructions Sharkey, but I gotta ask: Which mounts can you fill this way? Looking at the part photos on Kragen, only the front engine mount is obvious. I'm not sure about the others.

you can do all the mounts if you want. i would do the front anrear mounts, and put poly bushings in the dogbone, and leave the upper tranny mount. the upper trans mount only holds the tranny in place, it doesnt realy stop it from rocking.

OK. I'll give it a try.

Thanks.

On the main tranny mount, I thought that it might be interesting to remove the rubber, weld in some plates and a tube and use a poly bushing, like you would use on a control arm bushing. Since the upper tranny mount is a single bolt, you sould be able to do that pretty easily.

I never considered that. It sounds like it would be a good idea. One step shy of a solid mount. You could probably work out something similar for the rest as well, and never have to worry about the poly filling degrading or falling out. It would be as simple as removing the bolt, putting in a new bushing and putting the bolt back in.

well, thats actualy the plan i have. im tired of replacing the crap mounts, even the ones ive tried to make better. i plan to build mount brackets and use urethane bushings for mounts. its gonna take some engineering, but i think in the end itll work great.
