I have a 1989 Z24. In the last few weeks it has been running really rough. I knew it was a vacuum line issue. I traced it back to the egr valve. Stores around where I live don't have the egr valve in stock; I have to wait 5 days no matter where I go.
When I took it off the hose that leads from the valve to the exhaust, the compression fitting that held to the hose to the exhaust was all rotted together. Needless to say I lost that hose too (which is a dealer Item only.)
Is it possible to bypass that whole system? Can I put a cap in the exhaust (where the egr hose was connected) and plug the hole on the side of the intake? I know that I also have to plug the vacuum line. Is there any damage to the engine while doing this? It’s only to break down on emissions right?
Let me know what you think. I feel like I could fix my problem for $10 or have to spend $300 to put it back to normal. Thanks for the input.

you can block off the egr. my motor has no egr due to the way its built (headers and i cant get to the erg ort on the intake). i do get a check engine light at cruising speeds. if you have emmisions testing, you will need to keep it on there.
