I have a 92 cav RS with the 2.2 4cyl with 130,000+ and it will start to tick loudly after warm-up. I have done some work to try and fix the problem. This is what I know.
On the number 2 cyl rockers the first one is not getting oil. I have replaced the lifters and the push rods. I replaced all of them when the head was in the shop. when that was done the sound was gone just to slowly return. when the car is cold it dosent make a sound but after it reaches normal operating temp the sound comes back loudly. I have also rechecked the tourq (sp?) on the rockers. Could i have a bad rocker or could it be the cam? or could I have a lot of trash in my motor and that caused that lifter to get clogged? all others are working great. could I have a bent rocker arm stud? ( i just thought of that ). the motor has great oil psi at normal temp in drive at idle the psi is 24 at hwy speeds it is at 50.
I hope that everyone can follow my post. I need more caffeine.
TIA!!
Its lifter noise. All three of the 2.2s I've had in my car have made the same noise and I never had any issues. I'm not going to guarantee you'll not have an issue, but I never did.
Thanks for the reply. I really would like to try and fix it. I know it could be like spiting into the wind. It just started making the nose this summer. I also know that It could be a money pit to fix but I just love a motor that is quite.
Put in some lucas oil stabilizer it helped my sunbird with the ticking.
The Sunbird doesn't have the OHV. The lifter noise in an OHV is very common, even with additives.
loud ticking for me is usually a timebomb so i just call the police bomb squad and they come and fix it. first time is free of charge but second and so on are $99 a visit
