Front break change on 94 bird?
Monday, September 25, 2006 2:08 PM
I just changed front brake pads on my 94 bird 3.1L. The brakes are worse now then what they were with the pads that were on before which were worn to heck. The breaks are now spongie why?
Thanx
Jon

SPONGY PEDAL
1.Air in the brake system.
2.Wrong size master cylinder.- .(too small).
3.Calipers not mounted square to rotor.
4.Calipers mounted equal to or higher than master cylinder.
5.Pedal ratio too great.

i would go with number one personally. if they arnt bled or bled properly it will feel worse then when they needed to be changed. the other thing you might want to check if you did bleed them right you might have left the bleeder loser and its getting air in the line

I never bled them at all. This is what i did.
-Take tire off
-Take caliper off
-Take old pads off
-Use C clamp to push it back in
-Put new pads on
-Put caliper back on
-Put tire back on
-Pump breaks
-Took for a ride

Bleeding is not suggested. It is required.
