hey guys, about 2 months ago now, i picked up an '89 z24 2.8 w/ a 5speed. i 've done a few mods so far such as 62mm throttle body, 2.5 inch full exhaust from manifold back to a 40 series flowmaster and a high-flow cat, homemade air intake using a piece of mandrel-bent 3 inch exhaust piping, plus i took about 250 lbs off the car. w/ these given mods so far, what would you guys estimate my horsepower and 1/4 mile times be? the track doesen't open until the spring and i'm the most impatient person alive today so i figured i'd ask a few opinions. i still have a pair of shaved heads from a 2.8 camaro and a ported intake to throw on. thanks in advance for the help guys

well my stock 3.1 5 spd put down a 15.9 so im thinking ull be around the same if not better.
why would you put gen 1 iron heads from a camaro on your motor when get 2 aluminum heads are already better???
rough guess, 15.8-16.0. id guess 150-ish hp. realy these cars are not choked down that bad from factory, so you wont see huge improvments from exaust, intake and throttle body alone. those will make the most difference if you do some serious mods, like a cam, ported heads, higher compression, ect.

SHARKEY-i was gonna use the camaro heads because i'm sure the valves are bigger and with a good shave that should raise compression. the camaro heads are not deffinate though as i am doing my homework and also accepting advice from guys w/ experience w/ the 2.8 such as you. since the 2.8 is new territory for me since i've messed around w/ turbo mopars basically since i've been driving. i've been learning a lot about these engines though and they are quite intertesting. i did a search on the 3.4 swap and it sounds very tempting but like i said i'm still not too familiar w/ the 2.8/3.1 motor and i'm not convinced i have the confidence to do a 3.4 swap. i just wanna play it safe or now and try not to bite off more then i can chew. the car is in beautiful shape, and the motor runs really strong and i just don't wanna ruin a good thing. maybe a lil more down the road when i learn more about this engine, i'll do a 3.4 swap. i'm sure i can create a custom turbo setup for this car w/ my eyes closed as i fortunately know turbochargers and how they work inside and out, but i don't think the bottom end is too strong on these motors, or am i wrong?

nah im good i just wish i had a 11 sec car, lol
^^^ well w/ a lotta cash and a lil know-how, you could build an 11 second car. took me 2 years to build mine cause i didn't have the highest paying job in the world plus i had other priorities that came first lol.when the track opens in the spring i'll have someone record a few passes for me so i'll post a vid. if i launch right i'll be in really high 11's since i've turned the boost up (a little)
