93 Cavy RS custom exhaust
Wednesday, April 25, 2007 1:37 PM
Hey guys, I need a new exhaust for my cavy. I wanted to go bigger from the cat back, probably 2 1/4, w/ a resonator and get an O2 simulator. My neighborhood exhaust shop says that I should stick w/ the 2 inch and that there was no where to put a resonator because of all the bends in the piping. Anybody have a 2nd gen. w/ a custom exhaust, if so, how is it setup??

The Z24 system is a direct bolt in and its 2 1/4". You don't need an O2 sim unless you don't know how to tune properly. I don't know why you would need a resonator either. Do you really know what you want to do?

Well, i just heard that resonators would quiet the car. I want throaty, deep sounding. I don't want to sound like a bee hive. And also I heard a while ago that the O2 would mal. if you go bigger on the pipes.

here's what my exhaust looked like before paint & install:

can't say i'm feeling your shop's comment about "too many bends"! if you select a resinator well (check that outside diameter!), i don't know why you'd have any issues fitting it in just behind (or in place of, depending on local emissions laws) the converter.

oh, fyi, my exhaust is 2.5" & sounds nice 'n' beefy on my 3.1T. no idea how such a thing would sound on a 2.2, though...

Have you seen the turbo wagon?

So sorry for my "newbiness". Or I was probably high when typing in previous messages. I want to replace my cat and get a full exhaust but I heard that they cavy would run rich w/o the cat that's why I had an O2 sim in mind. Glasspack I am definitely going with? But I still don't know whether an O2 sim or no?

the o2 is in the exhaust manifold, you won't need a sym since your car only uses 1 o2..

It may smell rich after the car is removed.. simple solution is to use a hi-flow cat.

James, the '92-94 Z24 uses the same 2" setup as the RS and 4cyls. It's got different bends in it from the '91 and older pipe due to the different gas tank.

I'd buy a hi-flow cat off of ebay for $50 (2.25" in/out) and a muffler of your choice then take it to a shop to be installed. tell them you want 2.25" pipe, nothing smaller...
