Did anyone here ever built a 3.1/3.4 with a distributor and carburator from the 2.8?
I know Mallory has a distributor for the 2.8 but they claim it fits the 3.1/3.4?
Like this one
Edelbrock has an intake manifold for a carburator but doesn't say if it fits the 3.1.
This one
From what I've seen the 3.1 has a hole for the distributor but is it usable?
Thanks

The distibutor will fit the 2.8/3.1/3.4 Iron head motors. Which came in fieros, camaros, pre-87 cavaliers, some s10's i think? etc I've heard of someone modifying one to fit the aluminum heads and intakes, but i'm not sure. It'd be a downgrade, i know that much
The carbed manifold only fits the 2.8 IIRC. possibly the 3.1, not sure about the 3.4. To use a carb on any aluminum head motor would require a custom Lower intake. and the previously mentioned distributor.
Iron heads are a waste of time anyway. GenIII aluminum heads vs genI iron heads, alum wins every time. the fastest iron head motor i know of was a 12.3, at 10 or 12psi, and EVERYTHING custom built. On the other hand, i know of someone with a nearly stock 3400(mild port work only) and 10psi who ran a 12.2

Hum, good info. I want to go with the 90-93 3.1 and do alot of research on what I can do to it. Why can't I use the distributor on the aluminium head? Bigger head?
Boost is not my favorite. I'm more toward N/A power.

It's not so much the heads as the lower intake. The runner closest to the "rear"(tranny) sticks out too far, and wouldn't let the distributor seat down. So one or the other needs midified. Like i said i've heard of it but you'd dedfinately need a custom intake to use a carb. I've seen a 3400 UIM with a carb mounting falt machined onto it but it's about as far from ideal as you can get. You'd need to make a HEAVILY modified lower intake to give the A/F charge a straighter shot at the intake valve, for it to work worth a damn.
honestly, even if i were putting it in something liek a dune buggy, i'd grab the computer and wiring harness from a early 90's v6 cavy and just use fuel injection, not worth the effort to convert to carb
