I have a set of koni reds with GC's. I removed the front ones due to the fact that one day I noticed the passanger side had a lot of bounce to it. So I looked in the strut tower and noticed black oil like stuff. I then had to jack up that coil over just to meet the rest of the car. When I took the struts off though I pushed it down and it still came up on its own. Could it be b/c I did not adjust it right before I put it on the car?
Thanks for you input.
I dont think they have black oil stuff in them, I know my right rear was leaking and the liquid was clear, it could be you just have oil and road gump on it. If you can push down and it comes back up on its own its prob not blown.
Hrmm.....So you think that the one is just adjusted softer than the other side?
Thanks
Jason
How hard was it to push down? Try pulling back up? It is hard to pull up too? It should be a strugle in both directions (slow and hard). Konis have a mostly clear, slightly yellow/brown oil in them; not black. But it could be black from road crap getting mixed in.
Konis do blow/leak/fail. It happens to any brand or any product that is manufactured. It's just incredibly rare.
If it was leaking, I doubt very much that it would be able to get up into the strut mount... it would likely drip down the bottom of the strut housing onto the rim, knuckle, brakes, etc...
Hey thanks for all of the info, Im going to go look at them on sat. What should I really be looking for?
Should I just push them up and down and see if there is resistance? Should I also try to adjust them to see if that helps?
Also I guess I worded that wrong the "stuff" was not on the mount, but in the tower right above the wheel.
Thank you
Jason
