Strut tower bars???

I have been looking into strut tower bars a little bit and did some searching on here but didn't find out what I wanted to know.

I have seen some pop on ebay sometimes that are a front and rear brace made of aluminum, looks like everyother strut bar I have ever seen and for both of them its usually around 20 to 30 bucks.

Anybody have any experience with these ebay braces???

use the stock GM front brace, found in the 3rd gen convertibles for your front brace.

as for the rear, any old brace will work.

i have an ebay front bar, paid $26 shipped for it. if you know what ur doing when you put it on with adjustments and such-it WILL work great, i put mine on and was atonished it worked so well, and for such a cheap price.

idk about other braces out there, as ive only used the ebay one, but... im sure that theres better braces. the gm one bolts to the firewall if im not mistaken, so i think that would be one of the strongest and most effective ones.

now, as for my rear brace... i THINK its an RSM, the person i bought it from said it was. and honestly, i didnt notice any difference whatsoever with the rear being on there, but then again i put JUNK skunk2 coilovers on at the same time. idk, im sure it had to have helped but when u have such a crap suspension its hard to tell.

if i had to buy another one, id go with the MRZ performance front bar-its VERY nice looking, and looks very strong. im just not a fan of the gm brace.

Is there any advantage to just putting one on the front? Or is it like do it all or don't do it at all?

the front is more affected, due to the all the unsprung weight in the front of the vehicle.

the rear bars are so cheap though... might as well do that too.

^^ I think you mean sprung weight. Unsprung is heavier in the rear due to the torsion beam rear axle... control arms, struts, discs, calipers, springs, and wheels are all unsprung up front.

Rear has the torsion beam axle, drum assembly, wheels, struts, springs.

Sprung mass (or sprung weight) is the portion of the vehicle's total mass that is supported by the suspension.

Definitely go with the GM front bar. You can pick it up for $10 at pretty much any junkyard (given they actually have a 3rd gen vert in the yard). You'll notice the difference with just doing the front.

I checked junk yards a while ago for some other J parts and none of the yards around me had any Js, verts or standard. So unless someone has one they want to sell me thats not really an option for me.

Thanks.

Do a search for convertable top motor (chances are that the car that is listed has the brace still installed) -- 95 - 99
