Can one take Cobalt electric power steering & adapt to 97 Cavalier

I have read posts that says they are not interchangeable. I know that. But if one takes the EPS column, the intermediate shaft, and the rack from the Cobalt ( you need all three) and makes some mods and gets the mechanical parts in (they should be close?) does anyone know if the signals will work? I think the CAN connector sends data to the EPSM and are these CAN signals compatible? I think the CAN tells battery state of charge, vehicle speed, and whether the engine is on. I know I will need to bring a 70A circuit to the EPSM. But.... Is any of this possible? Need someone who understands CAN signals. also if there is a reason why Cobalt steering will not fit into a 97 Cav, tell me or better yet send me a picture.

So why would I want to do this? We are converting the Cav to an electric drive system with batteries. I don't want to run the hydraulic pump with an electric motor. EPS is very energy efficient and that is what I need. And how does a couple of cents per mile for electricity sound to all you fossil fuel lovers.
