This is going to most likely going to be alittle premature, much like most of my other thoughts.....
But who all would be seriously interested in a set of modded 99' Grand Am/Alero aluminum control arms. New J-body ball joints and poly bushing would be installed. They wouldnt be ready for purchase until after the new year.
I know im forgettin details and info you want/need to know. I'll answer them when they are asked.
I would, but would want them much earlier than that. I have everything to finish it up except the damn alum arm. I cant find one anywhere around here.

i would be down for a set
Lets just hope i can get my hands on a bunch of them. I know i can get a few, thats why im considering this whole deal.
I just did alittle preliminary pricing. The ball joints(Moog) and poly bushings(Prothane) alone are roughly $100. Depending on the amount of arms i can get, i'll see if i can do better. Im also waiting on an estimate for the machining.
If you just need/want the control arms that is possible too.

Have you thought about coordinating this with Aaron at TurboTech? He should have the ability to do the machining and presswork. Since they have their own "brand" of control arm bushings, it may work better (ie. cheaper) for all parties involved. It would also keep that money spent on machining within the j-body community.
I would also consider leaving out the moog ball joints. If someone wants them, they can just pick those up at any major part retailer.
No, i havent talked to Aaron about machining and bushing. I didnt see any listed on his site when i looked last night, but then again it was late, i was tired, and i could have overlooked them. The price i got for the Prothane bushings was from Karo's site.
I'll most likely leave the ball joints out. They are a simple install and will knock around $70 off the price.
you could proabably offer different packages for these if you have the supply.
everything from bare to completely assembled.....give the buyer the option....
just a thought. (i know, it is rare i have one...)
i have the arms and the bushings.
how much to do the modifying and install the new ball joints?

One of the main hurdles to overcome is finding a shop willing to weld the bolt holes in the control arm. Many shops, even ones capable of welding aluminum do not want to do the work.
The cost for the arms (modded with installed bushings) is gonna be around $250. It'll be more if you want the ball joints too.
Im hoping that i can lower the price, but that depends on how much i can get the control arms for at different yards.
*chirp chirp* *chirp chirp*
and the crowd goes silent....
I was getting prices from yards for $75-100 per arm, so figuring that + bushings, I would say thats a steal.
I've been able to source the arms for much less then that.... I am intersted in his arms, but if it's going to be over $250 I mighty just source the parts and do all the work myself
Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
Ive got a set of arms for sale if anyones intrested..phil
how much for just a set with the welding and cutting done but nothing installed?
harry's u-pull-it would have the arms for cheap (the one in hazelton has a few newer grand ams and aleros sitting)
as for interest, i'd be interested in just a set of the modded arms. already have the bushings and new ball joints.
I have been lucky so far and been able to get three sets of arms for alot cheaper than what John posted. $250 is a high estimate. I would like to be able to get them done for $200(everything but the ball joints), but that will only work if i can continue to get the arms for this cheap. I'd rather give you guys a high estimate than a low one and end up having to charge more due to the cost of the "raw" arms.
Ryan, you have a PM.
*edit* I have only been to one yard so far. There are a few more local ones im going to check out and yes spencer harry's is on my list.

im goin to harry's on sat morning/noon! i'll check it out if you want or we can even meet or something
I just got word that the more arms i get, the bigger discount i can get on the machining.
i would really love to get in on this but like i told john, i just cant at this time.
be VERY careful if your buying a set of these online, the first set i bought werent the aluminum ones, the second set i bought were but thats only because it was an ebay ad and they had actual pictures of them up. i got screwed over on the first set because they said i had the right part, it didnt matter if they were aluminum or not.
so before you buy a set make sure they know what you want ahead of time and make sure they know if they dont provide the correct ones your getting your money back.
whats the part number for these?? every time i try to get a price for ordering them they always want to sell me the steel ones
