first/last time someone else works on my stuff

hey everyone, I've been dealing with a bad pull on my brake system ever since I bought my car. it's a 96 2.2L cavalier. well, after replacing the brakes every 10k miles I've decided to try and fix it and it hasn't been going well. I've known what the problem is, the stripped out bolt on the control arm I tried to remedy with a helicoil, and the fitting on the caliper the bolts go through has shrank, as the bolts don't slide nearly enough on one side.
I bought a control arm from the local junkyard, paid $45, but it still had the ball joint(and part of the A arm sawed off), caliper, pads, rotor, bearing, and half-shaft. some of these parts were crap, but I was told to return them whenever I get the chance. Because of my busy working schedule I had my uncle come over to take these parts off because he had the tools and I was hoping to save some time. he's a licensed mechanic and works at a dealership, has worked there, for about 25 years. I felt pretty confident he could get this stripped down in his sleep. my faith was tragically misplaced because him and my dad simply torched off the axle threads to get the too shallow socket on the nut and melted the nut/bolt off the ball joint. I took off the rest so they didn't harm the caliper, rotor, ect. needless to say I'm pissed as hell, I found out about this yesterday and I'm still livid. they didn't even ask before they did that. what's the point of taking all that stuff off and not leaving me the tools to put the control arm on? so now I'm going to buy the right tools and get the job done the right way. what do I need? ball joint fork and deep 30mm axle socket? so what's the best way to take my axle shaft off? what do I need to be careful about with the bearings?

ok, so does anyone have any tips about taking the bearings off the control arm? and how about the abs sensor, how does that come off? yea rich, i guess this is a lesson learned, don't let someone mess with your stuff no matter how qualified they are. few people look out for our best interests, i just thought family was one of the few.

There's nothing wrong with cutting the axle threads shorter, it's pretty common to make centercaps got aftermarket wheels. And what's wrong with using a torch on a nut? If it's siezed on it's gonna take more ten hopes and dreams to get it about, some bolts need heat to come apart. I'm not sure what your so "livid" about.... You sound like an ungreatful whiny bitch more then anything right now, you complain about them helping you out, then you complain about them not helping you out and not suplying you with tools.

But then again no one knows WTF your talking about anyway.... A bolt in the control arm you cant tigjten would make the car drive like @!#$, it woulnt cause you to go through brakes every 10k. You bought a control arm from the junk yard with the A-arm sawed off..... the control arm IS the a arm.

also the bearing isn't attached to the conrol arm

the bearing and caliper are attached to the spindle the control arm is attached to the spindle with the ball joint

if you planning to use the bearing i would swap the entire spindle the chances of getting a bearing out in good shap is slim as most times you have to use a REALLY BIG HAMMER and pound the bearing out

NOTa2_4-I was talking about the control arm as a spindle and the A arm as what you refer to as the control arm. I did get the bearing out and it did go back together without too much of a problem.

Darkstars-a bolt in the control arm as in the caliper mounting bolt. the other bolt was also held up in the caliper, which doesn't help either. EVERY BOOK I'VE SEEN THIS PART IN CALLS THIS A CONTROL ARM.

I've looked it up in Haynes, Chiltons, and a dealership service manual.

I started this thread not only to find help on my cavalier, but to vent some frustration. I haven't recieved any helpful info. I'm getting flamed because I think a spindle and a control arm are interchangeable terms and an A arm is a seperate piece. Oh, lets not forget I'm getting bitched out because somebody melted parts that weren't mine and I should appreciate the effort. if someone ever steals your car, don't get pissed, you should take time to appreciate all the effort it took to steal your car. I'm sure you'll post up again about how stealing and destroying are two different things, but I won't read it. all of you can say you've "won" because I'm leaving the forums, ban me if you like, I don't care. I was going to just sell my cavalier soon anyway. there are way too many better cars out there for the same money.

Your still angry about your riced out interior? LOL. You can say what you want, you, your thoughts, your opinion, etc... none if it matters. Your not imporant, your another butthurt source of internet entertainment. I go on this site have a little fun and move on with day, people like the OP who cry and whine and want to leave the site and sell their car because a complete stranger points out that they are an idiot is what makes doing what I do fun. If so many people didn't take the dumbest @!#$ personally and get all worked up over it I would probobally stop.... But they do and that means I have a job to do.

As far as looking in the mirror, I look in the mirror everyday and everyday it's the same thing.... a person FAR superior to you

You guys are doing it all wrong, you just have to pick your spots when he falters ever so slightly and then go for the jugular.

That's how a man survives on the JBO.
