TOO BIG OF HOLES!!!
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 12:20 PM
Hey guys I got a quick question....

I purchased a Coilover kit from MANTPART (I know) and the tops required me to
drill out the holes in my struts tower on the actual body.

How should I fix the problem. i dont think it will throw off the alignment properties enought to worry about measuring
(I know there is enough camber adjustment stock)

Should I weld a washer to the top thats a smaller hole diameter... and Grind it flat?

Thanks in Advance
Andrew

if you need to hone out the holes.. why do you need washers?

needed... past tense.

The Holes needed to be drilled out for a MANTAPART coilover kit that was junk from the f-ing get go.
So later i purchased Koni yellows and Eibach sportlines (thanks for all those that responded when i had questions about that)

Now i have to go back to the OE size hole diameter to fit the stock strut plate. And using the MANTAPART strut tops is out of the question
cause those are junk

So what do u think guys?
weld a washer and grind it flat? Or any better suggestions?

THanks guys

i say...go back in time and spend a little extra for some coilovers you wont have to replace. people get too impatient and settle for cheap get-bys, for the future have patience grass hopper work hard and wait for the right time and it will save you some frustration and money

Just an FYI, the MantaPart coilovers are not cheap. I've heard some say they are very good, and some say they suck, but they are certainly not cheap.

the patient grasshopper lol

I was 17 at the time when i purchased them and was REALLY impatient. i didnt know anybetter just had some money from working two jobs bussin tables and workin in a factory at the time. Since then i grew up a lot, got Master Certified ,and learned a lot from all of the Helpful guys like yourselves on here too. I greatly appreciate it all by the way.

Because that help let me to The Koni Yellows and Sportline setup that was recommended to me.
(BY THE WAY, I HAVE HAD THESE A WHILE AND LOST THE HARDWARE KIT. I CALLED KONI AND TALKED TO
THE GUYS IN THE SHOP. I TOLD HIM THE PROBLEM AND THE NEXT DAY I HAD WHAT I NEEDED. BEST CUSTOMER
SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH.)

Yeah those from mantpart were really expensive i thought i couldnt go wrong.
Terrible choice.

So you guys think welding the washers and grinding them flat would be the best idea? I know the bolts arent like a snug fit but i mean the hole i think is 3/4 inch diameter
im just worried they would shift a little bit so i want to tighten up the tolerances for the bolt holes

lastly i wish i could go back in time, i would have never crashed my 2001 Two door Subaru Imprezza 2.5RS. best car i ever had (last year they made it)

Weld in washer, grind flat, then use a washer on the final bolt you install and you should be fine.

Heck, if you use a big enough washer now, you'd probably get away with it with no welding, just make sure you're good and snug.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.

Thanks Guys for all the posts....

One other question and I will make a new Post:

Are the Alero Rear Shocks the same as the Cavalier ones... I mean the Spring perches anyways
When i got the car it has aftermarket ones... So the perches are welded meaning I cannot
pound them off with a dead blow to use with my Koni's....

They look the same... What do you guys think?
