ABS, TRAC and Service lighs on when in drive.
Sunday, May 30, 2010 6:54 PM
Here is the deal. Start the car no problem, put in reverse to back out of garage, no problem. Put in drive and the "service" "trac" and "abs" lights come on.
The other thing it does is that when it rains or i wash it the back brakes lock up for the first few miles.
I have done the searches and tried the suggestions. I even ended up replacing the right side abs sensor because I broke the original one trying to remove it.
I tried to get the codes read, but autozones scanner doesn't do ABS and comes back with no codes. Pepboys wants $98 just to scan it. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.

I had posted this in Maintenance, but thought this may be the better spot for answers.

most likely one of your wheel sensors are bad. check your codes!

Ok, I was able to get it scanned and it showed an issue or short with the left rear sensor. This just happpens to be the same one I replaced 2 years ago. So I replaced the left rear last night and still have the same issue. I have now replaced the right front (broke it trying to get it off) and the left rear, spent about 300 bucks and still have the same issue. I'm heading out to the garage to remove the new rear hub and hopefully return it. oh and I even did the pain in the but task of checking the wiring all the way back into the car.
Any other ideas?

don't do this. there's no reason to try and return something you were trying to just throw parts at. just because you can't troubleshoot, there's no reason the parts house should pay for your mistake.

my car has a code saying short in the circuit for left rear sensor...i would guess you have it too. would be easy to check if you had a scope...just look for the ac wave pattern at the diff. connectors in the circuit to isolate the section of wire that is causing problems...guess you coud try it with a meter on ac but its a lot less precise.

The scan showed the left rear sensor as being the problem, so I wouldn't say I was just throwing parts at it, if the scan had not said left rear sensor I wouldn't have bothered. I put it on, as soon as the car was in drive, the lights came back on, so I removed it. The parts house isn't paying for anything, they had it in stock and I'm sure will sell it to someone else. I could understand if I drove around town with it on, then of course I wouldn't.

Yes, I installed the part, put the car in drive and the lights came on so I put the car back in park never moving my foot off the brake pedal. I left the car in the garage as usual and the next day I took off the part and took it back to the store looking just as new as when I walked out with it. I even told the guy what had happened and he pulled it out , looked at it and said ok and took it back. I'm not the type of person that tries to scam or take advantage of people or companies because I've had it done to me and it sucks. If I drove around with the part on I would agree that it was used, but bolting it on, putting it in gear and not even moving the car to me is like trying on a pair of shoes or jeans, I wouldn't say they were used. I do understand and respect your view, and hope you can see mine.
