Hey guys, I can hear my wear indicators on my pads hitting my rotors. Gonna be redoing my brakes, no problems on that end.
Is there anything else that I should take a look at while I have the brakes and rotors off? Car has 125,000 on the clock.
04 Cavalier.
Torn/greasy CV boots, tie rod ends, ball joints.....sway bar endlinks rusting through. Might as well check for play in the wheel bearings and such while you have it in the air too...
Thanks man. I will keep an eye on those. What kind of play am I looking for? Up and down? Side by side? Do these cars have balljoints? Sorry, I am traditionally a RWD man.
They have a ball joint on the end of the control arm. Once the wheel/tire/rotor is off, you'll have a easy view of most everything.
For the wheel bearings -grab the tire at 12 & 6 o'clock and try to push in and out, shouldn't have a lot of play. I wouldn't really worry about this, because you'd probably have a humming noise on turns, doesn't hurt to check though while you're there.
Check to see if the pads are wearing evenly. If not then you have a caliper problem.
1000+hp economy engine, hell ya!!!
What do you mean evenly? Side to side? Because when I looked at them I saw that there was more meat on the inside pad then the outside pad.
