Coilover Question
Sunday, September 26, 2010 1:29 PM
Yesterday, i had Koni yellow installed on my car with ground controls, and when i turn my wheels when im slowly moving or not at all, there is this weird noise coming from the front driver side. It sounds like something to do with the springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like coil bind to me. Common with Ground Controls if I remember correctly.

Heres what I found. I remembered reading it in PJs STD install thread:

DaFlyinSkwirl wrote:There are so-called "coilover spring bearings" that are sold from SpeedwayMotors.com... they're basically a 2.5" thrust bearing that sits underneath the springs. When turning the wheel for slow speed maneuvers or when standing still, if you ever get a pop-pop-pop-pop-pop sound, its the spring not rotating freely with the rest of the coilover body. By installing the 2.5" thrust washer, you give the spring an easier way to move, and it helps to eliminate that annoying sound. They're inexpensive (around $40) and worth every penny.

I cant say specifically that that will fix your problem. Id go through and make sure they were installed correctly. You could also have a buddy turn the wheels for you while you watch the spring and strut to see what is binding.

I put a @!#$load of bearing grease between the upper perch on the coilover and the strut mount every couple of months. Fixes it right up for me.
