Is anyone modding GA control arms these days?
I got a set here that need to be welded up and new ball joint holes made.
Misinblu did mine years ago, do a search on this board for his name and pm him to see if he's still doing the mods.
also interested. my stock bushings are shot, and would rather just swap new arms in than pull and replace the bushings.

not at 5x the cost
gotta agree here......price is just not worth it to me.....i can see spending a decent amount but no where near the now asking price
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
hell i might take you up on that mark i have a set here doing nothing.

If you need a set modded we can do it. Just need a spec sheet of what needs to be done. Probably lookin at $50 a side to mod.

Trying to decide...I gotta do some measuring since im getting your camber plates with the up and comming gp. I apparently can take up the slack with those. But not sure if I have 1/2" of room in my fenders.
As for the spec sheet persay..
Fill in the old holes and drill new ones a 1/2" back, and trim off the end of the control arm that 1/2"
I have a set modified and was planning on getting a unmodified set and handing them to my machinist to see what it would take to get some around, however due to somewhat fear of lack of interest and lack of participation i backed out
and then mark came out with his tubular and sure enough he got the same sort of interest i expected and which is the same kind of interest i feared i would get. I think misn's how-to is pretty spot on for anyone to either do themselves or find someone to do.
its really not that big of a deal... surely there are experienced welders local to just about anybody that can handle the job.
one day i will run GA control arms....just gotta be willing to fork out the cash. I want the OEM tubular arms but they are waaaaay out of my budget.
Misn's how to is great.
I just dont have the know how when it comes to the welding. Ive read about cast aluminum crystalizing and all that..makes me nervous.
I have a couple welders local, but they both said the same thing that they can't gaurantee that the aluminum will stand up to being welded, they said because it was cast that it would probably fall apart. I just don't want to be out a pair of arms.

Well I know it can be done... Obviously but don't feel comfortable with the thought of a ball joint falling off lol.
if you're on coilovers or have adjustable pillowball mounts, you can run the arms un-modded.
I have a set on my DD currently. Toe was out massively when I first installed them, but I've fixed that and now I'm working on setting my camber properly. when I first installed them negative camber was 1* on one side and 2.5* on the other.. now that toe is set I need to re-measure.

I probably would not use that welder then lol. These aluminum arms are forged.

lol @ cast arm, one pot hole and its done.
The guy that did my welding for me knew exactly what GM had done with the aluminum arms and how to weld them.
I've never had a report of any of the arms I've sold go bad, break off or have any issues on the ball joint connections.
I've been running mine and I'm not easy on the car and not one bit of an issue if the guy that's welding them knows what he's doing.
Also, it's quite easy to do, and all you need to do is take exactly one half inch off of the end of the control arm to make them work.
If I can do these all by hand with the cutting, shaping, and finishing then ANYONE can do these, and is why I did the how to for everyone to do these if they can find a welder competent enough to do the welding.
Mark, this is something that you should look into for your customers that have the arms and want them welded.
No blueprints or exacting measurements are needed to trim these and the group purchase that went on a couple of years ago showed that they could be done by machine and look reasonably good. Mine did look better btw.
But I'm no longer doing these since my welder took over 3 months to do a simple weld job and after that I decided to give it up on making these work.
Plus the last couple of sets that I made, one was sold, and the other set was never paid for by a well known poster here on the JBO. So I lost alot of time and money on that deal which I let go and considered it a loss. No hard feelings to the individual but considering that he's one of the more respected members here I'd have never thought that I wouldn't get paid either. Such is life.
Mark @OEM, here's your calling to do something for the members here that want something like this done.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
I will probably be interested...
Depends what the pillowball mounts are going to run me
And also if I can get away with sticking my tires out another half inch or not. hehe.
I think it should be a option..like a core system.
If it got me a cheap set I could grab you a few sets as well from our local yard.
I'm currently working on a set.. Other then welding this is something that most people should be able to handle on there own for a fraction of the price of having someone else do them. Just follow the how to and pay attention to detail..
