Wheel Bearing / Hub Assembly Questions
Tuesday, May 31, 2005 1:11 PM
I have been reading up on some of the other swaps people have done on these and have a couple questions:

1.) Is taking the tie rod bushings and such really necessary or is that mainly for access purposes?

2.)If taking them off is required is an alignment also required?

3.) I read about people having problems with those torx head bolts coming loose, would lock-tite on the threads be okay to use?

4.) Switching parts tonight \ tomorrow, any suggestions \ hints?

1. Don't mess with the tie rods, not needed.
2. If you take off tie rods you should get an alignment
3. The torx head bolts don't come loose if you torque them down properly (I have changed out wheel bearings probably 6-8 times on my car)

Suggestions:
I have had a problem with the axle nut coming loose before. Try a little blue loctite on there. Also, make sure you torque it down to 180 ft. lbs. I think there are some instructions on www.bradiscool.com or Team Forward Motion's website.

Yeah, I looked at the www.bradiscool.com write up and that gives me a pretty good idea of what I am getting into, I was just concerned because I have read some of the other threads and one guy said he had to re-tighten the nut like 4 times. I really don't want to have to do it 4 times!

Also, in reference to that Brad is cool work up, he greased to seal that sits behind the hub assembly but not the front end. I had a mechanic suggest that I should put grease in between the rotor and the hub assembly, any truth to that? I can't imagine why I would need it...
