Newbie Question
Sunday, October 02, 2005 3:45 PM
Wow, this question makes me feel like a newb. Anyway, does a 2000 cavalier (or any third gen RS cav) have a front sway bar? I thought that mine does, but do not have it with me to check. I've been looking at buying some poly swaybar bushings for it. Thanks in advance.

I'll have a sig someday....................

I don't see why not. Even the base models have a wimpy bar, so the RS/Z24 will have a bigger one.

do all the rs cars come with sway bars? i had mine tore completely apart a few months back and dont recall seeing a sway bar anywhere on the front of my car, oddly enough my car doesnt have a whole lot of body roll in really sharp corners leading me to think that i somehow overlooked a 4 foot wide steel bar lol, i have a 98 Rs with a 2200 if it makes a difference.

RS come with 18mm bars iirc. Z24 with bigger.
Base come with NO bar.

All sunfires come with a bar. SE smaller, GT bigger.

Wow! I guess 3rd gens got the shaft with the FE1. Ours have 19, 22, and 30mm bars.

I thought the RS's had the Z-24 suspension with the 2.2L engine. If thats the case, it should have the bigger front bar.

Ok, I looked it up this time...
FE1: Base = No bar
FE2: RS and LS have the same mechanical options = 19mm bar
FE3: Z24 has the "best" options = 22/24mm bar (-99=22, 03+=24)

RS is the Z24 looks without the extra cost of actually upgrading anything.

Sunfires are the same, SE=LS and GT=Z24

Yes the 3rd Gen got shafted, but the 2nd gen has a higher COG and is 3" skinnier.

OK, I will have my car tomorrow and that will be the first thing that I look for. I just ordered some bushings and I am hoping that I can use them. I do have a RS so it should have a sway.

Pat: Yeah, I should have mentioned these apply to US cars specifically. Cars sold in Canada are different, although very similar.

i noticed you listed pre 99 and 03 plus...what about the sway bar for the z24 00-02?

is this a good sway bar or would you guys recomend getting a better one or what not and what about in the rear? what would be a good one?

...are you trolls that dumb that you cant realize mid 15s is slower then 14s?

Oops.. That was a typo.. I had 03 on the mind for some reason.. should be 00+=24

A rear bar can make a world of difference, personally I like the Eibach 22mm rear, with a stock 24mm front. But to each their own. If you open a topic "what sway bars are you running?" you'll get more opinions than you can handle.
