Looked at a 98 Z24....sign said needs engine work 1500 OBO

Talked to owner-

Orgin. Owner
Dark red met.
96,000 miles

Bucks like a horse when running-

Looks if the head gasket is going

At glance-no coolant in oil (yet)

Everything works-lot of new stuff (brakes, battery, 2 newer tires)

Engine is clean..nice shape (not real dirty or oily at all)

Body in good shape-just some dents and such.

Has no real buyers...he'd be willing to take 500 bucks it........

Would it be worth it?

If the engine is the only issue, it's definitely worth it. You could easily replace that with a low mileage junkyard motor and have a great car for around $1000. Depends if you can do the swap yourself.

if all it needs is a head gastket and a few minor things pick it up for 500 bucks and put about a grand or so worth of work into fixing it and there u go. 1500 bucks and a perfectly good Z

if you have the knowledge, or money to replace the head gasket, resurface the cylinder head and then put it all back together. buy it.
But.
You might spend 800 to 1,000 in labor if you want somebody else to fix it right
and with a warranty.

Tatal cost 1,500 plus taxes and tag

Stupid question, what motor is in it? If its the 2.3 or 2.4 the bucking may be caused by the coil housing failing. I dont know what motor came in that year but I know that I have had that kind of problem with the 2.3 and 2.4's

Sounds like a good deal. But you cant expect much for 500 bucks anymore. If it just needs a tune up, then real good deal!

500 bucks? Good condition? Even if it had no motor I would be on that. But I could do a 2.4 swap in my sleep. If you dont buy it I am real interested. I'll pm you.

Well If your lucky. it might be a bad sensor. Depend on how much the sensor is you could get away cheap? Does the ENGINE Light come on? Or it might be the time belt has jumped.. Worse come down to it you can part it out and sell it on EBAY!!! LOL..

2.4ls dont have head gasket issues.

i bet $ that it is a bad coil pack housing/ plug boots. that is the first thing to replace when a 2.4l starts running bad. start up top and work your way down. .

white coil pack housing is like 40$, spark boots i want to say 20$. and some new ac delco plugs and i bet it runs like a champ.
