you gotta tell us what its for , for one. different years used different plugs, newer are different shapes. different models, (fire or cav) are different too. I have bought a set or 2 from ebay you just have to make sure what your buying.

NOT TRUE, you can get your old deployed module reset and then go to the dealership and have them reset the system. Or you can buy a good non deployed one and have that one installed with good airbags and again go to dealership to have them reset the system. Cost for the dealership to do that should be no more then 100.00. Its a 5 min job.

man thats a new one to me too. I have been in the repair industry for years, I have done several cavalier rebuilds for myself, never heard of resetting them. The only ones that were resettable were 95's. Now as far as I know youhave to match up the correct service # on the module. (the vehicle vin is in there) there are only cartain years that work with certain years as far as I know. Im assuming is because of the different communication systems that are on the J's, I know of 2 serial data which would start in 00 and the previous was UART, Im almost positive the plugs are different , one larger than the other.
There is an adbot at the top of this thread maybe go to that place , www.airbagsystems.com incase your a premimum member and dont see it there.

i know for a fact that the pass bag is the same from 95-05, and the driver plugs are the same 95-02 and 03-05. but yeah i've never heard of resetting them

I know for a fact that the plugs are different between 99 and 00... sorry Resurrected J. The bags are interchangeable IF you swap the connectors....

You can reset a module, but it needs to be dismantled and "repaired"... you have to see the inside of one to understand how it's possible. It's not easy, by any means though. You need to know what you're doing. I've seen places (even on Ebay!) advertise a repair service for $100 for most domestic cars.

There are a lot of parts that will interchange thru the years, if you swap connectors. ie. you can use a 00 SDM in a 05 car, if you swap the clear plastic key on the connector... and vice-versa.

To the OP... if the airbags were deployed... you're going to need the SDM module under the passenger seat... in addition to the front crash sensor, maybe the clockspring in the steering column too (check to see if it's still got continuity or is burnt up...).

95-97 bags interchange 98-99 and 00-02 and 03-05

there are minor differences

john- my problem is, i'm building a salvage vechile. my air bag light MUST be off for it to pass the title inspection. Now can i put a module from say a 96 in it and the light will go off?

You might want to make sure that you have to have them. Every state is different. Ohio doesnt require them at all. Call your inspection station to make sure.
It is a safe bet to get the same year module as your car of course or you can ask a dealer to be 100% of the swap years.

yes i have to have them, they will not pass the car w/o them. NY title inspection sucks. this is my 4th total i've built

When you do them , does the title change back to regular or is it rebuilt salvage? Years ago my boss did a couple of NY rebuilds and they were clean once NY inspected them. All we had to do is repair them and drive them up to get inspected, which sucked cause Im im in ohio. but still I was amazed they cleared them. Just curious if they still do that.
