i got a 98 sunfire with a 2.2 in it and so far have replaced the thermostat and the gasket from GM had a flush done and had dexacool GM coolant put back in it replaced the top coolant pipe from GM and bled the system. My car is still overheating it constanly goes up and the fan brings it down. Its fine on the highway with the air blowing in the grill but sittin in traffic or just city drving it goes up and down drives me crazy any i ideas ?

What makes you think any water-cooled engine won't steadily get hotter while sitting still? Until a fan kicks on and cools the water, the temperature is going to rise. And once the temp is at an acceptable level, the fan will kick off.

it does it in traffic thats a given but even in the winter it acts up a little bit not nearly as bad though. My sister has a 99 and hers barley even moves even in traffic stays half way mines constantly up too the line before the yellow (Sunfire temp gauge cavys different) on the temp gauge and fan kicks in brings it down and shuts off.

mine did the same thing, even after i did a valve job and replaced all the gaskets in the top end. that's just how they are.

Try replacing the relay for the fan. I've had the same trouble before on both of my Sunfires, and that solved my problems.
