2.4 Rebuild Kit?
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 7:54 PM
Hey guys, I made a post on Craigslist to see if anyone had a totaled car I could rip the engine/tranny out of and some woman sent me this email:
Quote:

"HAY, ALL THESE ENGINES ARE BAD. IT IS FAULTY INTAKE GASKETS AND DEXCOOL CRAP. THE INTAKE FAILS THEN QUICKLY RUINS THE HEAD GASKET. THERE IS A NEW REBUILD KIT THEY CAME OUT WITH THAT REPLACES ALL THE OLD. AND REPLACE THE DEXCOOL WITH GOOD OLD GREEN. IT MAY BE CHEAPER AND BETTER FOR YOU IN THE LONG RUN TO JUST HAVE IT REBUILT. GOOD LUCK."

Does anyone know wtf shes talking about? And, if they really do sell these rebuild kits, would it be worth it to rebuild my engine rather than buying another used one? The engine runs smooooth and sounds good, but it overheats within 5-10 minutes. A trustworthy mechanic friend told me the head and/or gasket is blown and that it would probably be easier to replace the engine... again...
Thanks
Mike

PS:
She replied back to me already. I asked her if she knew where to get one of these kits...

I WILL ASK MY UNCLE WHERE HE GETS HIS. HE OWNS HIS OWN MACHINE SHOP. I BELIEVE IT IS AT A DEALER. I KNOW HE SAID TO GET THEM FROM GM. AND LET THEM KNOW YOU WANT THE REPLACEMENTS FOR THE OLD. I HAVE A 98 GRAND PRIX. SAME MOTOR. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST GM FOR THE FAULTY GASKETS BUT THE WORK HAD TO BE DONE WITH IN THE FIRST 7 YEARS OF THE VEHICLE. GOOD LUCK I WILL LET YOU KNOW IF HE SAYS DIFFERENT.
GOOD LUCK.
