Dull grinding sound while drving
Saturday, March 14, 2009 9:56 AM
I have an 04 Cavy/auto. Well about 2 months ago i slid off the highway and sideswiped a few construction signs ( the flat Ones). banged up my passenger side quarter panel, hood the frivers side 1/4 panel. My question is that now when im on the highway at anything above 50 and pointed straight, my car makes a low dull humming sound from the fron end. Thing is if i turn right even the slightest bit, it goes away, until i straigten up again. the car still handles fine and tracks fine but the sound is gettin annoying. Any clues as to what is causing this?

Actually... if you turn the car to the right, that's shifting the weight to the left wheel bearing... AWAY from the right wheel bearing... so it would be the right that is the problem.

If you were turning to the left (shifting the weight off the left, and onto the right) and the noise went away... then it would be the left.

I think trevor's right. the wheel on the opposite the turn. Rt turn left bearing, Left turn rt bearing. The wheel with the extra shifting weight causes more strain on the failing bearing. less weight , less strain and noise.
Not sure , jack up one front tire at a time and put in drive, run it up to the said speed. This will not harm a thing, If you have trac control it may not work for you though.
Just be sure cause its no fun changing the wrong side.
