i have a 95 sunfire se 2.2L ohv 5spd i'm lookin to see what is the easiest swap. I've been lookin through the site and i see tons of swaps but i never seen any in a 95. If i'm correct i believe my car is a obd1.5 which makes it a little harder to swap engines in. I've been lookin into anything from 2.3L quad 4 5psd to a 3800 SC but i dont know what would be the easiest and cheapest. I've thought about a 2 gen 3.1L 5spd swap but i dont know so give me some ideas

Waste of time. If you only want a 20hp increase, might as well go with an ECOTEC.

I swapped a 3rd gen 3.1 sfi into my 95 cavalier.. It was pretty easy.. only took a few days.. and I also think my car was a obd1.5 and that didnt make it any harder... now if the sunfire has the same mounts as my 2.2 cavalier, the motor will bolt in if you have a 94-95 grand am mount but you have to bolt the grand am mount that bolts to the motor into the sunfires frame rail mount.. the 2.2 tranny bolts up also.
PS when using the 94-95 grand am mount the engine sits about 3/4 of an inch too low on the passenger side of the car... and for the bottom mount instead of a bunch of cutting and welding I just made a custom bar with a offset to bolt the j-body lower mount to the 3.1 lower mount.. I thought it was the easiest way.. about 300 miles on my swap so far without one hitch..

dont swap. turbo it. obd 1 IIrc is guuurrrrrrr8!
how much work am i lookin to swap a 3rd gen 3.1 into my car? is it a lot of wires that i have to change or do i just swap the whole wiring harness? is the eco an easier swap then the 3.1?

Hell no the ecotec swap is not easier... When I did my swap I had the entire 94 grand am 3.1. I had the 3.1 bolted into my car in a few hours.. Spent the next few days doing the wiring.. Not hard at all.. I got most of my information from the 3rd gen v6 swap sticky. On my swap the v6 harness is not part of the stock harness anywhere.. I hooked the always hot wires to the battery then the ignition wires though a relay hooked to some wire that is hot in run.. If you want the stock cluster to work you will have to run both PCMS. the j and the 3.1. but thats not hard either..

what about a 2.3l quad? is it a worth while swap or even the 2.4l. actually is there any performance parts for the 2.2l that would give me a little more power but leave the car N/A? and i dont want NOS... any swap at all that would require a lot of down time ( more than a weekend) is no good for me. I use the car for work and if i dont have a car i dont work.

you said easy so a 2.3 is the easiest a 3800 should be completely off your radar if you want easy because its far from it
JBO since July 30, 2001
